“Amazing place in Trinidad / Increible lugar en Trinidad”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2014

"La Casona" is a place that surprised me gratefully! I will not get into much details as the other reviews talk by themselves. From La Casona you can access the mountains with its amazing cascades or walk "a pie" to downtown Trinidad, a few minutes on foot. The bars and restaurants around are diverse, I personally recommend "La Botija" for your meals and "Yesterday" for one of your rock nights. They feature live local rock bands. Save some hunger for the delicious meals that Kenia and her crew prepare at La Casona.

Prices in La Casona vary depending on the number of people in you group and the composition of the rooms. Their price for a double including breakfast will increase in March to $80.00 as the 25 mts swimming pool will become fully operational. The view from the swimming pool is breathtaking as it oversees the mountains!

To reach the beach you can rent a local driver for $8.00 one way. We took a day charter from "Puerto Casilda" with Juan, a Spanish guy that owns a sailing boat and does trips to Cayo Macho, awesome experience! I have some films and pictures that I'll be posting next week. Please keep checking. The price per person on this boat is $80.00 and includes the round trip to Cayo Macho plus lunch and a drink.

If you are a scubadiver or would like to become one, ask me and will give you more details. Trinidad is one or the best spots for scubadiving in the southcenter of Cuba.

Trinidad has became my favorite spot in the Caribbean. I will come back as soon as I can!

I wish you all a good stay and good memories to share!

This is one Fabulous Ranch. We just returned from a week's stay at Casa La Casona, it was awesome. My words can hardly describe this corner of paradise in Trinidad. La Casona offers beautiful accommodation in large rooms with air conditioning, fridge/bar, TV, each with its own absolutely gorgeously designed private bathroom.
The rugged Moorish architecture of the buildings on this ranch mixed with traditional colonial style is cool, comfortable, relaxing and inspiring.
Riders will be delighted to visit the stables hosting purebred horses. We accepted Camilo's invite to day-long horseback trip to the mountains and, even with two of us being first-time riders, we had a blast!
Back to the Ranch we enjoyed a glass of mojito or Cuba-Libre at the private hilltop fresh-water swimming pool with a 360 degrees view of the valley to the North and of the town, all the way to the Ocean, to the South.
Our hosts Kenia and Camilo, family and staff were great and always very helpful.

How was the food?: Phenomenal! All ingredients are natural, fresh, locally grown or fished and dishes are prepared in house. Even the bread is made at La Casona, so you'll have the pleasure to taste hot bread right out of the wood heated oven every day. Mango and Guava juice that you'll be served with at your table is always fresh blended.

How was the room?: Beautiful decoration, comfortable beds, clean, hot water all day (with good pressure at the taps and showers). Each room has air conditioning with remote control to adjust to your preference. For your passports and valuables there is a safe in each room, bolted to the concrete wall.
Parking is available on the premises and it is very secure.
A guard on staff is present at the main entrance's gate-house all day and all night. He will open the gate for you when you're coming back from those late nights on the town, just make sure that you remember the pass-phrase (in Spanish, of course).

Other Comments:
La Casona offers a unique lifestyle; is a family friendly ranch, with 4-star accommodations within in a functional ranch environment. Everything that you will experience is REAL, the stables, horses, the vegetable greenhouse, the baker's oven. The ranch lifestyle here is safer and cleaner than anywhere else without losing its realism, all due to the talents, hard work and dedication of your hosts. It is a special Cuban experience.

How you get there?

The closest airports are Cienfuegos and Santa Clara. Call Kenia +53 41 998692 / Mobile: +53 52925356 at La Casona to arrange for their shuttle Ford minibus with cowhide seats and A/C to pick you up when your flight arrives.

Other stuff that you may find helpful:
Cellphones have good coverage most everywhere in Cuba, that is the best way to keep in touch with most people and places. Save the number of your preferred taxi driver for your stay in the area. Taxi drivers are helpful and professional, this was our experience.

This was our first experience of staying in a Casa - and it was TERRIFIC.
Comfortable bed, lots of hot water for a shower in the 'outside' bathroom.
Peaceful to sit and read, watch the horses get saddled up, before being served fresh fruit for breakfast, omelet and good coffee.
The dinner we had was also delicious and substantial, washed down by beers from the fridge in our room.
Safe place to leave our car, while we went out and enjoyed the WONDERFUL entertainment that is Trinidad.

This is one of the most peaceful places I have stayed at. Kenya and her family were wonderful hosts making sure we were comfortable at all times. The meals were amazing - fresh mango juice in the morning and seafood with traditional Cuban sides in the evening. The inn itself is beautiful, clean and well-kept. Highly recommend hiring a private driver ($40-50 a day) who drove us to the waterfall and acted as a tour guide.
