“Home Away from Home”
Reviewed May 5, 2014

The staff here at La Ronda is superb at making all of their guests feel like they are part of the family. Built in the last 4 to 5 years, it is so great to have an alternative place to stay in town, as for many years it's been only the Iberostar, or the hotels out by the beach, unless you can stay at Casas Particulares, which have not been choices for my work with groups ( which I hear is changing, as I write!). Anyway, back to La Ronda, sweet staff, internet access, great little happy hour upstairs at the rooftop bar, and nice rooms. Some people don't like the fact that the rooms just have some type of shutters, kind of high up in the room, and no real windows, but it doesn't bother me. All I'm doing is sleeping there anyway!

Room Tip: The rooms in the front of the hotel do have windows, but are noisier. I prefer any of the other roo...

Small, beautiful to look at, comfortable, clean (thank you, Lorgia, the funniest towels and excellent laundry), good food and excellent drinks (thank you Juvenito, the best mohito in Cuba)
Friendy and intimate atmosphere without being cloying. We were made to feel totally special.

Room Tip: Downstairs, if dodgy with mobiliy

Very good location, ideally situated to take in the historic sites enabling you to return to the hotel to shower and change to go out to dinner, as there was a wide range of restaurants within a short distance of the hotel, helpful and pleasant staff, average breakfast, not a very good selection on the menu, items not always available, there was a daily surprise of the towel art that the maids left on a daily basis.

Actually we did stay at the Grand, as when we arrived we discovered the Ronda had accidentally given our room away. We technically weren't supposed to as we were travelling with our kids and the Grand is adults only but they bent the rules for one night. Wish it could have been both as it was much nicer than the Ronda.

The ground floor rooms were quite nicely furnished (if a bit Latin American naff), although the main window didn't have any glass (it had shutters) and looked over the courtyard, although being about 8 feet up we couldn't see out. Consequently it was very dark and gloomy except in the night when a pane of glass above the door let light in.

The main problem was the rooms (we had interconnecting) smelt. A fairly nasty drain smell. We didn't bother to mention it as we were only there one night, but the stench stayed with me all night.

Breakfast in the morning involved a menu rather than a buffet. There wasn't much choice. It wasn't that great.

This centrally located hotel in the charming town of Trinidad, Sancti Spiritus province, is small, quiet, and delightful. The central courtyard and mezzanine bar were wonderful places to hang out while waiting for friends. The breakfast menu included generous plates of fruit, omelets, and yogurt. We ate dinner there one night too and it was just fine, though not spectacular. What was spectacular were the towel sculptures the maids left for us! Animals and flower arrangements and our last evening we found a suprise that I won't describe because I don't want to spoil it, but hope you will be as surprised (and delighted) as we were. Everyone at the hotel was pleasant and helpful.

Good location about a ten minute walk through the interesting streets of the town to the main tourist area with colonial style buildings, restaurants, bars, etc. Very clean and modern with a large spacious room and lots of hot water for the shower. The bar on the terrace was very good with a great Cubra Libra severed with enthusiasm and a smile. A very good hotel and the best we stayed at in our 2 weeks in Cuba. Recommended.

From all the hotels we stayed during our two weeks visit in Cuba, this hotel was the very best by far. The people were very friendly, the rooms had the most of the amenities like a 5 stars hotel in Europe. The rooms decor and the arrangements to the towels in the bed, was amazing. Trinidad is a nice city and this hotel adds a lot to it. All the staff was friendly and helpful. They also have a musical trio who plays every evening by the bar. We had the opportunity to listen to the good old music of Cuba. In General, Trinidad is the place to hear good Cuban music everywhere.
When you go to Trinidad, it is a must to stay in this hotel.

Room Tip: All the rooms are nice, room 210 maybe the best.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The small La Ronda Hotel opens onto Parque Cespedes and offers a value-priced budget alternative to the deluxe Iberostar a stone's throw away, while having the advantage of a heart-of-affairs location compared to the similarly priced Hotel Horizontes Las Cuevas up the hill. The concept is fairly simple: take a 19th-century townhouse, fix up the plumbing and install modern bathrooms, give the rest of the building a sprucing and open up to foreign tourists. Hotel Cubanacan (formerly Islazul) La Ronda is located in the centre of Trinidad which has been declared a world heritage site by the UNESCO. Nearby is the Romantic Museum, the Plaza Mayor (Main Square), the Santa Ana Church the Cantero Palace and much more. The 17 air-conditioned bedrooms are on two levels opening to an atrium patio with palms and potted plants. Furnishings are somewhat meager, and the mattresses and pillows are second rate. Nonetheless, the rooms are the equal of most private room rentals (the most popular options in Trinidad) in town. The high ceilings and colonial tile floors help keep rooms cool, and those facing south have tall French doors opening to balconies overlooking the lively plaza. Satellite TVs, telephones, small refrigerators, and in-room safes are standard. The small restaurant and bar here are charming, albeit simple. Continental and criolla meals are served. For a splurge, the ritzy restaurants and bars of the Iberostar Gran Hotel Trinidad are literally a 50-pace stroll away. La Ronda hotel has been recently renovated. ... more   less
