“Beautiful Boutique Hotel with Amazing Staff”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

I arrived in Trinidad when the town was having week-long celebrations to celebrate the est. 499 years ago. Music all over the picturesque square with people dancing in the side streets. Hotel almost overlooking the square. OK, it was loud, but this was a particular occasion and luckily we sleep through anything! Room was stunning and the courtyard beautiful. Although I know that they were fully-booked it is so small that you often felt that you were there alone. A couple of musicians seem to hang out there in the afternoons, lazily playing soft melodies - I even left my door open so that I could nap with the strains filling the room! Lovely!

The evening receptionist (Lizmey), our maids and the evening security guy all deserve a special mention - they played with my daughter tirelessly with genuine warmth and we even got invited to dinner at one of their homes! What a treat!

Again, not especially child-friendly as a building, but I still wouldn't hesitate to recommend, based on the level of service.

Trinidad is picturesque but small. Nice place to wander. Can be difficult with a buggy as some areas are cobbled.

Room Tip: Consider that overlooking the street means you get a lovely view and small balcony, but also means y...

This is a small boutique hotel in a great location near Carrillo Park in Trinidad. It has only 19 rooms situated around a courtyard with lots of privacy. Each room is tastefully decorated and has an in-room safe. The lobby has a romantic atmosphere, and the rooftop bar has a band and a great view of the city. You can walk to many places of interest from the LaRonda - and this is a plus. There is a supermarket 2 blocks away. Around the corner is a street market where you can find many fine products made by local artisans. The restaurant's food is very good and we were treated to a very special Thanksgiving dinner with turkey and all the trimmings! However, the best part of this hotel is the staff - I have never been to a place where you were really treated like family. The staff is engaging and you can get to know each other if you wish. Each person goes out of his/her way to make you feel welcome. I would stay here again without reservation!

Feel welcome with very personal service and very special housekeeping. Nice rooftop bar for looking at the stars and having a Cuban cigar. Also very comfortable rooms with all amenities. Courtyard has many tables for gathering with friends. CNN on cable

Our group was greeted by the entire staff plus a enthusiastic band. You would have thought we were royalty. The creative bed decorations by the cleaning staff made us excited to return to our room in the afternoon to see what clever things had been done.

Our room was very comfortable, clean, very good shower (little problem with water on floor that was fixed by using hand towel to make dam), great beds. No wifi, but there is so much to do in Trinidad, you don't miss it. All of the rooms open out to the courtyard and have no windows save a open air that defeats the purpose of a/c. Not a negative for us.

The roof top bar made for great gatherings before dinner and the sunsets were beautiful.

All-in-all, one of the most enjoyable hotels ever.

Just stayed three nights - warm, welcoming staff who could not do enough for us. Hotel has only 20 rooms, no pool but has restaurant and atrium plus comfortable lobby; located just off Plaza Mayor. While we were there they were installing safes in each room and new electronic door locks. Food is fine considering country's lack of resources; to our surprise, food in Cuba is not exciting.

Room Tip: Do not worry about street noise at front of hotel - quiet.

We had no hotel booked and were lucky to find three rooms in this hotel. It had only recently been redone and thus is very nice. It has a nice inner courtyard and the rooms are spacious and nicely fournished. The staff is quite friendly and it is located right in the city centre.
The only negative point is breakfast as there is no buffet and you have to order every single item you want (juice, coffee, bread, jam etc). Moreover, it took half an hour before we had everything we had ordered which of course is quite annoying....so if you stay there make sure you plan plenty of time for breakfast and take a newspaper :)

Of all the places we sta he'd in Cuba this was probably the most enjoyable. Recently remodeled (you can forget those older re views) this small hotel is up to date and the staff goes all out to please. Sure, the food can be improved but given the reality of Cuba it's more then adequate. Centrally located and an easy trip to the local sites.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The small La Ronda Hotel opens onto Parque Cespedes and offers a value-priced budget alternative to the deluxe Iberostar a stone's throw away, while having the advantage of a heart-of-affairs location compared to the similarly priced Hotel Horizontes Las Cuevas up the hill. The concept is fairly simple: take a 19th-century townhouse, fix up the plumbing and install modern bathrooms, give the rest of the building a sprucing and open up to foreign tourists. Hotel Cubanacan (formerly Islazul) La Ronda is located in the centre of Trinidad which has been declared a world heritage site by the UNESCO. Nearby is the Romantic Museum, the Plaza Mayor (Main Square), the Santa Ana Church the Cantero Palace and much more. The 17 air-conditioned bedrooms are on two levels opening to an atrium patio with palms and potted plants. Furnishings are somewhat meager, and the mattresses and pillows are second rate. Nonetheless, the rooms are the equal of most private room rentals (the most popular options in Trinidad) in town. The high ceilings and colonial tile floors help keep rooms cool, and those facing south have tall French doors opening to balconies overlooking the lively plaza. Satellite TVs, telephones, small refrigerators, and in-room safes are standard. The small restaurant and bar here are charming, albeit simple. Continental and criolla meals are served. For a splurge, the ritzy restaurants and bars of the Iberostar Gran Hotel Trinidad are literally a 50-pace stroll away. La Ronda hotel has been recently renovated. ... more   less
