We had a similar experience as one of the previous reviewers booking with cubadirect.
My wife and myself arrived, not met from the bus, and fortunately I speak Spanish.
Having found the accommodation I was taken accross the street to an old ladies house. The room we were supposed to stay in was of very poor standard, even for Cuba. It was nothing like the previous reviewers photos,so bad we refused to stay.
We made our way to Playa Ancon and had a great experience.
The guy at the end of the phone, our so called local contact, basically said "tough" ring the UK.
Advice to fellow travellers, DO NOT USE CUBADIRECT, once they have your money they are not interested. Note also they have a Company LIVE HOLIDAYS.

Room Tip: Do not go there.

What made this stay was the family. They were welcoming, willing to discuss lots of subjects and give an insight into Cuban life which we might not necessarily have got in a hotel. The food was all right but our room, very clean, could have been more comfortable. Maybe I am being harsh because nor was it the price of an hotel.

Trinidad was a fascinating city to stroll around and we went on two different days to see the almost 100 year old steam trains on which you can do excursions. The engineer helped us aboard and explained how everything worked. Fascinating.

During our trip through Cuba we stayed 2 nights at the casa particular Jesus Pineda in Calle Francisco Cadahia in Trinidad. Despite being close to the main square, we did not like the accommodation. The welcoming was kind and friendly but unfortunately the room we were given was totally not satisfactory.
We booked though CubaDirect in the UK (of which we had more issues concernig the treatment received) and it was the only private accommodation in Trinidad they could offer as the Iberostar Trinidad apparently was fully booked.
We therefore thought of a closer experience to the Cuban life style staying in a family run accommodation/B&B . Unfortunately among the rooms rented by this family we were given the only one with no windows and with the door facing on the entrance hall of the house. We had our own private bathroom but still without windows. Despite the presence of air conditioning, the only way to have some fresh air and feeling not trapped in a box-room with no natural light was to leave the main room door open with the two front small glass door closed (old “Western” saloon style) . This anyway did not give us proper privacy and we were disturbed by people going through the hall or sitting on the sofas right in front of our door. The phone was nearby and it rang early both mornings of our permanence disturbing us.
The breakfast was acceptable, according to the food availability of an average Cuban family. They have a terrace where they arrange dinners for tourists brought there by various tour guides.
If it was not for the box room with no windows we would have enjoyed our visit to Trinidad a lot more. Therefore anyone who is booking this B&B and do not like to sleep in a totally closed environment, should ask for another room where, we noticed, at least there was a full length window in the bathroom, still facing the internal court of the house.

We stayed here for three nights at the beginning of August and found Jesus and his family very welcoming and friendly. The room was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and most importantly had very efficient air con. Meals are served on a beautiful terrace on the roof with lovely views over the terracotta rooftops to the mountains in the distance. Breakfast is plentiful and freshly prepared and there is a choice of evening meal if you wish to dine in the casa, including lobster. We opted for a meal in the casa on two evenings and enjoyed three course meals consisting of fresh fruit, soup, main course, salad and pudding - far too much for our appetites but beautifully prepared! Jesus speaks reasonable English and can help with travel arrangements etc. I would highly recommend this casa if you are visiting Trinidad.
