The Plaza Mayor was just a few blocks from our hotel. There is much to see there during the day and at night. There are beautiful, well preserved buildings, many with 17th and 18th century architecture on the Plaza and in the surrounding areas. The gardens are beautiful with benches to rest or people watch. You can climb a tower to get an expansive view of the Plaza, the sea and the entire area. The cathedral is worth a visit. The alter is stunning. Several of the old homes are filled with antiques. One is a restaurant, Sol Y Son. It is filled with pieces original to the house. Photo ops abound---horse drawn carts, bicycles with carts, straw bag sellers and, of course, old cars. At about 9 PM every night there is music atop the steps on the Plaza. The bands play until 11 or 12 o'clock. Locals of all ages and tourists dance, socialize, eat and drink. If you travel to Cuba, Trinidad. a UNESCO World Hertiage Site is a MUST see.
