Review of Plaza Mayor

Plaza Mayor
Ranked #1 of 42 things to do in Trinidad
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 5, 2014

The Plaza Mayor was just a few blocks from our hotel. There is much to see there during the day and at night. There are beautiful, well preserved buildings, many with 17th and 18th century architecture on the Plaza and in the surrounding areas. The gardens are beautiful with benches to rest or people watch. You can climb a tower to get an expansive view of the Plaza, the sea and the entire area. The cathedral is worth a visit. The alter is stunning. Several of the old homes are filled with antiques. One is a restaurant, Sol Y Son. It is filled with pieces original to the house. Photo ops abound---horse drawn carts, bicycles with carts, straw bag sellers and, of course, old cars. At about 9 PM every night there is music atop the steps on the Plaza. The bands play until 11 or 12 o'clock. Locals of all ages and tourists dance, socialize, eat and drink. If you travel to Cuba, Trinidad. a UNESCO World Hertiage Site is a MUST see.

Lovely colonial square with museums housed all around it. Well planted gardens in the centre of the square with ample seating.
Sit here and watch the world go by, including the old man on the donkey (waiting for payment in order to take his picture)
Museum of Architecture, Romantic museum and museum of archeology are all worth visiting
Cobbled street and old American cars give Trinidad a unique feel

A very pleasant square surrounded by well preserved buildings and good restaurants. The steps next to the church host music events every evening.

Well preserved colonial square, probably one of the best in Cuba. Facing Northbound you will find at the right side the stairs of the Casa de la Musica, where you can have drinks, listen to some Cuban musicians and dance salsa with the stars as your roof

A beautiful square surrounded by museums and the Iglesia de la Santisima church, a short walk from the Parque Cespedes and the excellent Iberostar hotel.

The square is made up of four fenced in gardens with palm trees, with seating to sit and people watch !! Amazing characters, including an old man sitting on an even older donkey. For a small coin he will let you take his photo !

On the square is the Museo Romantico full of colonial furniture from the 18th & 19th century.

There are lots of bars around the square with live music every night. The one up the steps near the church is very good - you will hear it before you see it !!!
