I stayed in this house for 3 nights and it was great. The house is beautiful, it has colonial style and an amazing decoration. Iris and Maria and all the family are the perfect hosts, they help you with everything you need during your stay and they give you all the information you need about Trinidad and the surroundings. The location of the house is perfect, very close to Plaza Mayor and with a lot of restaurants around, anyway if you want to eat in the house the food is delicious (breakfast was very good). It was the best and the most beautiful house during my stay in Cuba.

This Casa has tasty dinner and lots of it if you opt for eating in... I suspect no one has ever finished an entire meal there! Warm, family-run place and excellent service - the daughter speaks perfect English if you need any travel help and have weak Spanish. There's an open-aired courtyard with old brick walls and fire place (this location was a cigar-rolling business before the days of Castro and the same family ownership today runs the casa). The room was clean, high ceilings, and loads of space. Rooftop terrace provides one of the best views around - amazing at sunset (overlooks the old city, church bell tower, with ocean in background and mountains all around). Quick walk (about 4 minutes) to the historic plaza and church for sight seeing and about 10-15min walk to the hustle (and I mean hustle!) of the central business district - we avoided this area unless we needed to rent bikes or arrange travel. We cycled the 32km (return) to Playa Ancon, which was a real highlight of our entire trip, but extremely hot in July and really not for the faint of heart. I'd say taxi it instead and watch for Medusa Jellies in those waters in July - we saw loads of people with burns and I snorkeled from the beach into a patch of 30 of them just off-shore. Beautiful beach, but better to just cool off quickly in the water perhaps! There's a wonderful coffee shop that serves espresso with dark salted chocolate on the side just opposite the park in front of the church, about 2mins from this Casa. About 10mins to the Viazul Bus Station.

Room Tip: We saw the front, roadside room as we checked out and it is HUGE with beautifully charming colonial...

We never stayed at the Hostal El Tayaba ourself as it was fully booked during our stay in Trinidad (winter 2013), but we came in contact with lovely Irisneidy and her family when we sent an request asking the availability.

Irisneidy tipsed us about a fantasic casa particular, (we stayed at La casa de Dailyn y Ronaldo) she arranged the drive from Varadero to Trinidad, and from there to Havana and the airport. She arranged for us to go horseriding, to go on a catamaran-trip, to learn to dance salsa. She even took our oldest sun of 16 years out dancing on the local disco "La cueva".

Irisneidy and her family is hospitality, good service and kindness en persona and they really made our stay in Cuba a life time experience.

To all of you people out there who is considering traveling to Cuba I would really recommend Hostal El Tabaya in Trinidad, y para ti Irisneidy, yo mando un gran abrazo.

I will have to be up front in that I did not actually stay at the Casa. I was with a group, two weeks ago from Road Scholars who spent about 45 minutes talking with the owner/host.

My impression was that he was a very friendly and concerned proprietor. His full time job is as a economist with the government. But as with all civil service workers his pay is not very much and he runs this property as a supplement of his income.

After talking with him I expected that the reviews would not be as good as they are. He expressed concern that Trip Advisior reviews were less than good because of the noise from the bar on the corner of the street. He told us that the back rooms were not impacted by the street noise, but the front bedroom did indeed have a noise problem. He said he would like to respond, but the cost of internet (he doesn't have his own network} made it impossible to respond.

I did tour the home and found it to be wonderful for any person on vacation. It is right in the center of a beautiful colonial town. I did not see any sign of bugs in house of upstairs on the beautiful terrace which overlooked the city.

The occupancy rate he said is running 70 per cent which I think is pretty good, so you better book early.

Our family of five stayed at this lovely casa at the new year. A gorgeous house with beautiful furnishing, fabulous views from the rooftop, private car parking available, and excellent location. Except for the taverna across the street whose party noise raged on until 6 am--as did the loud music blasting from the house down the street to the point our bed literally shook. I'm generally not bothered by noise at night but this was plain ridiculous. Maybe outside of holiday season it would be more tolerable but unfortunately we ended up cutting our stay short because of the volume.

We were so thrilled with this hostal in Trinidad. With hundreds of options, I truly believe we lucked out on finding this gem. From the moment we walked in, the family made us feel at home. The rooms were lovely and had everything we needed. The location is perfect and the food they provided...AMAZING. We ate every meal there for the 4 days we were there because we were just stunned at the portions and quality, and price! There are so many beautiful things to see in Trinidad and having this cozy hostel to return to each evening was something to always look forward to while on this portion of our trip. Thank you to the family for such a great experience. Check for great deals at this place as we lucked out and had very low rates during the high season. If you go, tell Iris that David and El Ruso sent you!

Room Tip: All the rooms are great but if you want to splurge a bit, ask for the front room as it's a maste...

This casa gives a good impression of how Cubans lived in former days.
The house is beautifully furnished. You can have breakfast and diner on the roof terrace.
Iris is a very nice hostess.
She recommended us a nice casa in Santiago de Cuba: San Carlos Hostal.

Trinidad is also a good place to visit the Toppes Collantes.

Room Tip: Don't be fooled by Jineteros at Trinidad!
