Hostal Casa Mauri

This house is also known as Hostal Casa Mauri.

We traveled to Trinidad without a previous reservation, and after a great recommendation from a local friend we contacted Miguel the owner and asked about availability.
Having visited Trinidad in previous occassions, I was a bit skeptical about the location given it's vicinity to the center of the main square in town. However, upon arriving at the house, the location was prime, close to the main square but far from the touristy hussle of massive crowds.

Upon meeting Miguel, we immediately had a great feeling that we would be staying in a family owned, well maintained house. The house is simply amazing and its beauty shines on its own. This family has lots of history in Trinidad and a chat with Miguel can be the start of long and fruitfull friendship. Do note, he tends to be picky and selective with his guests, all within reason, as he likes to maintain a beautiful, tidy and peaceful environment.

There are a large number of colonial houses in Trinidad but if you want to stay at the most beautiful house and get a feeling of stepping back into time of grandeur and family wealth, this is without a doubt the right choice.

We also had a chance to meet and mingle with Miguelito, the owner's son who had arrived from Spain. Needless to say, the son is a true chef who will impress many high caliber exigent foodies.

The family is well known in Trinidad and will provide you great suggestions for places to eat, visit and relax. A key to their success is the involvement of all family members, including aunts and cousins who live around the corner, everyone simply wants to make you feel at home. This to us is priceless, their friendship and warmth will make you want to return without a doubt.

Room Tip: If you want a really quiet room, choose the room in the back of the house

We stayed here for 4 days and were so happy that we did. Miguel had just taken over running the Casa in February and is doing a fantastic job,Nothing but nothing is too much trouble and his cooking is wonderful. The rooms are big and airy and sitting on the patio with a drink after a long day is great. The house and family has a very interesting history having been in the same family for many generations.Trinidad is a brilliant place to be and you will be very well looked after staying here.

Room Tip: The nearest room to the hall is nicer as the bathroom is brand new

Really liked staying here - was one of my highlights of my trip to Cuba. It's a beautiful, spacious casa with an excellent location. V. close to everything and yet peaceful too. The room we stayed in was extremely spacious with comfortable beds and probably the best bathroom we had in the whole time in Cuba. There is an inner courtyard which makes for a peaceful place for breakfast and a roof terrace with views to the sea, across the town and towards the Sierra D'Escambray. Lovely views for a sunset beer! Miguel is lovely, very helpful and kind. The house itself is really special, other tourists even knocked on the door asking if they could take photos & look around - and then looked very jealous when they realised that we were actually staying there! I would absolutely recommend this to anyone and will definitely stay here again if I make it back to Trinidad. The only thing to be aware of is that you might want to have earplugs if you're sensitive to the sound of birdsong in the morning. It didn't bother my traveling companion at all, but I found ear plugs helpful. Also, be prepared for the face that hawkers will probably try to tell you that it's closed or that they're going to take you there, while taking you somewhere else. Don't let them! Overall this is very highly recommended.

Room Tip: Only saw the first room though they are all very similarly located. The first room (where we stayed...

This is a very spacious Casa right in the centre of the old town. Miguel was waiting for us when we hopped off the bus and it was just a short stroll to his beautiful traditional Casa. The room was enormous with 2 double beds and a large bathroom with roll-top bath. The Casa dates back to the 1890's and both rooms face the terrace which overlooks the inner courtyard area. Miguel lives alone but has 3 lovely local ladies who come daily to cook breakfast and the evening meal if requested. We ate in on 2 nights and the meal was very nice. On the final night we shared our wine with Miguel and the girls who insisted we join them for a dance. Miguel may take a little time to answer your email as he must go to the local tourist office to answer his emails. Private internet is not allowed in Cuba. Remember that Cubans still have very little so they have not been able to update their mattresses for many years (still the old flock type). If you like your creature comforts take a camping roll mattress and pillow. We loved Trinidad and spent 4 nights here. [--]
