“A great Kiwi welcome!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2011

We have just spent a lovely few days at the Iluka B&B on Waiheke Island. The hosts, Kathy and John, could not be more welcoming or accommodating.

The rooms were comfortable and quiet; perfect for recovering from a flight from the UK. Kathy has a great attention for detail and the rooms contained pretty much everything we needed. The rooms are not in a fully self-contained annex, but are integrated into the house. Having said that, there is plenty of privacy.

The breakfasts were generous and delicious, with high quality ingredients, really setting us up for the day.

Iluka is set off the beaten track and away from the more touristy parts of the island. There are lovely views of the sea from the breakfast room and it is a stone's throw from the start of a great tramping track along the coast/cliffs to the Te Whau winery, which has one of the loveliest views on the island.

We had a wonderful two night getaway staying at Iluka. Kathy and John were perfect hosts. Lovely room and lounge, great bed and cooked breakfast. Two coves to walk to. Hire the car through Kathy and get a great welcome at the Car rental. We cruised the island checking out the wineries, beautiful houses and beaches. Listen to Kathys advice on where to eat, you won't go wrong. I have reviewed the eating places as well. Mudbrick winery,(Lunch platter for two Yum). Charlie Farley, Great dinner, sitting on the deck watching the waves roll in..

We stayed two nights and took the deal with the car and kayak. Great value. We had a private balcony, roomy place, tea, bikkies and hosts who really cared and gave great tips for dinner places. Would love to return.

We've spent two nights here and everything was great. Friendly hosts, great location (the coastal walk close by is well worth it), cozy beds and a great breakfast - Kathy & John run a lovely place. We'll be back !!!

we had read the reviews but were still not prepared for such a warm welcome and such hospitable hosts. we arrived in the evening and were offered a meal [ which we declined as we were very tired] and rapidly settled into our suite of rooms.the rooms are 'like home' only tidier, cleaner and smarter! every option of drinks [tea, herbal teas, coffee, instant coffee, chocolate ] and even home made biscuits together with more glasses than one could ever use!
the breakfasts were wonderful. we stayed a few days so had a different cooked choice each day and barely needed to eat again until the evening. we started with home made muesli[ and await the secret recipe ] and fresh fruit. we checked out an 'english breakfast', hot cakes with fruit and apple syrup and corn fritters over our stay and they were all cooked to perfection and delicious.
Kathy and John are wonderful hosts and offered us advice upon where to go and what to do, offered us the loan of a sea kayak and ensured that our stay was memorable and very comfortable. another review mentions feeling like they had come home for a visit and that is very true.we never felt that we were a trouble and we didn't ever feel intruded upon. we saw some wonderful books about Waiheke and about New Zealand flora and fauna.
the setting near to a secluded beach, by some great walks and away from the main settlements is ideal if you enjoy waking to the sound of birds and looking out on a lovely garden and the sea.
all in all the place to stay and the island to visit.

Kathy and John made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. Delightful home made breakfast. We did a package thorough Sealink Ferries which included the continental breakfast only. We are glad as we would have had no room for a cooked breakfast after home made museli, home made bread, home made fruit salad with all the extra condiments.

Their house is a lovely home, tucked away in a peaceful and tranquil setting within a stone throw of the water at Rocky Bay. Would highly recommend and hope to visit again.

I stayed at the Iluka for two nights and found it to be spot on. Kathy and John were delightful and so helpful the entire time. Kathy kindly picked me up from the ferry terminal and gave me a lift back when I left. They both had some good tips for things to do on the island. The whole place was lovely and comfortable. Fully kitted out with anything you might possibly need on a practical level as well as being beautifully decorated. Nice and quiet, super clean, bright, spacious. Great breakfast too!
