“Stony Batter”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

Very Interesting Very informative volunteers giving out information and stressing the importance of taking torches Yes you do need to take torches the tunnels are very dark! The only draw back is the long walk 20mins to the entrance and on a very hot summer day dont forget your water bottle. Great experience

“Great Experience”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

Fantastic job done by a small dedicated group, well worth the time it took to get there. Look forward to going again in future and seeing the changes made. A lot of work done so far with very little funding, well done guys.

Lovely views on walk up, good information from staff. Recommend that you hire one of their torches as they gave much better light than the one we took with us.

“Nice View of Waiheke Island”
Reviewed July 2, 2013

Went to Waiheke for a long weekend and although the journey to Stony Batter took a little longer than expected (with non-paved roads), the view and crisp air was well worth it. You truly can see the view of the sea from here and the rocks are interesting too.

“Great fun and adventure-ish!”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

A very interesting drive to get there, viewing some beautiful scenery along the way. You'll need your own vehicle. It's a good walk from the parking area to the tunnels, but a nice walk and only gently sloping along a gravel road. You will need to bring cash to pay the entry fee - around $5 per person or $8 for a family.
Make sure to bring good quality torches, at least 1 torch between 2 people, but better would be a torch each. If you're claustraphobic, just climb the hills above the tunnels and enjoy the really magnificent views over the Hauraki Gulf and Islands. It's really spectacular.
For those brave enough to go through the tunnels, if you turn off the torch, it's REALLY REALLY DARK! Scary! :-)
The tunnels normally close by about 3 or 3.30pm each day. Very isolated. Very beautiful location and well worth the time to visit.
The drive there is around 30 minutes from the main village on the Island, Oneroa. But allow longer and stop along the way.
