Flew over from Sydney to stay at this property. It was well worth the travelling time. Set in a superb secluded location, with stunning views, this property lacks nothing. The house itself is glorious, the layout, fittings and decor could not be of a higher standard. It is truly a beautiful environment that has been created. Attention to detail could not be faulted. Can't wait to visit again.

Just back from a long awaited weekend to get away from it all at Hei Matau. We had high expectations but its fair to say these were exceeded. Perfect. Our room was beautifully appointed and the property and grounds are stunning. Breakfast was extremely generous and kept us going all day Peter and Fiona get the host thing just right. Attentive but not at all intrusive.
A great spot on a beatiful island.
I can think of nowhere else I have ever been that I have enjoyed more.

My wife and I visited three locations in New Zealand on our honeymoon, and Hei Matau was our last stop. Peter and Fiona and very friendly, helpful with booking trips or dinner, serve amazing breakfast, and are in general great people. The location is fantastic, the house itself is secluded with a beach/ocean view that is spectacular. The pool was too chilly to use at the time, but the spa was a great way to relax before bed. Being just a short drive from town, the ferry, or all of the great vineyards, this location has plenty to offer for a short stay. Peter even drove us to and from all our dinners and wine tasting providing buts of information about the island all the way. The house and rooms are very modern in architecture, but have a home feel with interior decorations. Large glass windows throughout the house provide a great view from all rooms. Drinks and snacks before dinner along with hearing stories from Peter and Fiona was a daily treat, all the snacks were delicious and I had trouble not filling up before dinner. It's such a nice and peaceful location we consistently found ourselves reading by the windows and watching boats in the distance. A great place, we loved it, and after traveling the rest of the world I'm sure I will still want to go back!

We needed a Waiheke venue for a reunion get-together for a large-ish group (13) of friends and family, and Hei Matau was absolutely perfect!

Plenty of space, lovely rooms and the most stunning view imaginable! Everyone had a fantastic time, whether they were playing cricket on the lawn, paddling the dinghy out, lounging in the hot tub or creating culinary magic in the awesomely-appointed kitchen. There were spaces to socialise and places to relax, and we never felt crowded at all (far from it, in fact).

Peter and Fiona welcomed us and gave us the grand tour (accompanied by treats and nibbles), before leaving us to it. We all felt at home instantly, and were all rather sad at having to pack up and return to reality on Sunday afternoon!

If you need accommodation for a dozen or so people, and want to have an amazing weekend in paradise, then Hei Matau would be pretty hard to beat.

Hei Matau Lodge is a slice of heaven on Waiheke Island.
Rodney and I booked the Romantic Getaway At Hei Matau. The first glimpse of the stunning view as the gates rolled back hinted at the sublime indulgence that was to be presented to us over the following two days.

Peter and Fiona's hosting is magnificent. From the welcome coffee accompanied by delectable home baked cookies to the personal bottle of Taittinger in our room, their hosting was faultless.

The divine breakfasts were enjoyed whilst overlooking the endless water views. The pre-dinner
canapés with delicious local wines was a perfect beginning to a romantic dinner at the local restaurants. Peter and Fiona booked the restaurants, chauffeured us there and back. We felt like royalty.

Peter's advice and guidance on local attractions and wineries was invaluable.

Hei Matau Lodge is faultless in its luxurious surrounds - the rooms were perfect. Just Divine!!

My Husband and I spent our first wedding anniversary here at Hei Matau on Waiheke Island. Being our favourite place to holiday, we have stayed at a few different spots on the island – so I can say from experience that Hei Matau is the best of the best.

Peter and Fiona are exceptional quintessential kiwi hosts, if you are traveling from outside of New Zealand, you will no doubt get to experience the best of kiwi hospitality here. We felt thoroughly spoiled, everything is well thought out, and the attention to detail just makes your holiday that much more special. We had expert advice whenever we needed it, but plenty of peace and privacy to enjoy our special weekend together.

The Kereru suite was beautiful and relaxing, adjacent to the pool deck, and perfectly positioned to enjoy the mesmerising view – even if you haven’t made it out of bed yet!

Holidaying with food allergies can by trying at times, but Fiona and Peter took away those worries and presented amazing food. Fiona’s breakfasts and home baking would rival any top Auckland cafe when it comes to gluten and dairy free. If you fancy a relaxing night in taking in the surroundings, we highly recommend Hei Matau’s BBQ dinner, teamed with local wine – a great evening.

Highlights for us, waking up to that amazing view, watching the sun set over a glass of wine with our hosts, eating fresh oysters, hearing the history and meaning behind Hei Matau's sculptures, and enjoying the spa pool under the stars.

Thank you, and we can’t wait to return!

Room Tip: Kereru suite is perfectly situated for an evening dip in the spa.

Booked a couple of days away for a bit of relaxation and pampering, my expectations were not only met but exceeded. Hei Matau Lodge is set in superb surroundings. The moment Peter opens the gates you are mesmerized by the view. Peter and Fiona are fantastic hosts. From the moment we booked Peter offered advice and recommendations as to where to eat and places to visit. Then making the necessary bookings for our meals etc, Peter then chauffeured us to and from the booked venues, making the whole stay effortless on our part. The food provided at the Lodge was fresh and delicious, from the homemade muesli to the 3 course dinner. The rooms were well thought out. There was nothing I could fault. The whole experience was amazing and I would highly recommend staying at the Hei Matau Lodge. I look forward to visiting in near future.
