“Paradise found on Waiheke Island, NZ”

My wife and I stayed three nights at Delamore Lodge and have absolutely no complaints what so ever. The lodge is an incredible mix of luxury and comfort. You will never find a better view from your bed and bathroom anywhere else in the world. Aaron and Roselyn were so hospitable and the attention to detail was indescribable. I highly recommend you allow Aaron to cook a meal for you in addition to his famous breakfast. The dinner he prepared for us was the most amazing meal we had our entire trip! The pool had just recently been added and it will make you feel as you are a world away from everyone. I really can't say enough about the lodge. If you want a true Waiheke experience, stay at the Delamore.

We spent our final night in NZ at Delamore Lodge, and were sorry we couldn’t have stayed longer!

The setting is stunning – fantastic views, especially from the bathtub. The overall design is like nothing else we’ve experienced – really fun, but luxurious. Loads of thought clearly went into the design and build of the lodge, and full advantage taken of the scenic setting.

Service is professional & impeccable. A driver was sent down to meet us off the ferry from downtown Auckland & take us up to the Lodge. We had asked for restaurant recommendations beforehand, but were pleasantly surprised to find that not only had a reservation had been made on our behalf at the Mudbrick Vineyard (spectacular setting overlooking vineyards with the lights of the Auckland skyline on the distance), but a taxi had been arranged for us too.

The common areas are sumptuous and very well appointed. Roaring fireplace in the main lounge, and tons of books, CD’s and DVD’s available to take back to the room. The huge spa pool was heated ready for us, and sauna was ready.

The rooms are identical and all have private verandahs. The rooms are split level, with separate bed, sitting and dressing areas. The bathroom was wonderful, with bath set up to maximise the view & stocked up with loads of toiletries. The rooms are very private, and absolutely silent at night – the central waterfall is switched off at night.

Pre drinks and canapés are something else! Chicken, prawn & chorizo skewers, with a comprehensive choice of wine and other aperitifs. We had to limit ourselves from having too much in order to maintain an appetite for dinner.

Breakfast was a real treat – we should have taken photographs! We counted 12 different fruits in the first course – all artfully cut up and arranged. We had no room left for the cooked course.

To get to the airport, the Lodge had arranged for us to be taken over on the car ferry in a classic car. Jeff the driver is a real character, and took us on a mini tour of Waiheke Island and Auckland on the way there.

After experiencing some of the very best that NZ has to offer, Delamore is right up there and we unreservedly recommend it. We found the service to be impeccable.

The Delamore Lodge was our first stop on our honeymoon and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The lodge is beautiful, with fantastic views, tasteful interior design and sybaritic rooms with a real sense of privacy. Tom, the chef, was a good guide and very hospitable. We had great breakfasts and stellar dinners in the Lodge. A real treat.

We went to Delamore Lodge for two nights for a relaxing break after Xmas.

Rooms and views are stunning, by far the most spectacular on Waiheke island and perhaps Auckland more broadly. The web-site photos do not exaggerate.

Room design really pampers. The terrace and the bathroom are gorgeous. TV, telephone etc are fairly basic, with no internet access.

It’s a long, steepish walk to a beach, which didn’t seem good for swimming. Best activity is sitting on the terrace looking at view. There isn't much else to do at the Lodge. They arrange good reservations at local restaurants, wineries etc.

The Lodge is substantially more expensive than top Auckland hotels. We observed the Lodge's service to be a little temperamental, sometimes fawning and sometimes merely acceptable.

Had the in-house meal. Food was the minimum acceptable standard for the price. You are seated near the open plan kitchen. For us intimacy was destroyed when the chef/host and one guest shouted across to each other most of the evening. Didn’t really want to hear about how long his working day was and the difficulty he had in purchasing ingredients for the not so imaginative meal.

Overall I felt that the Lodge is relying on write-ups in international travel magazines etc to attract guests. For me there were question-marks about the genuineness and the professionalism of the hospitality. On the other hand, the room design and views are simply beautiful.

I would like to respond to the comments on January 2006

I would like to comment, that I had a new management couple representing the lodge for a short time. It proved unsucessful, and the owner took back the management of the lodge.
The orginal chef has returned and the cuisine is outstanding, Delamore's service is second to none, Our guests are never left wanting and we apologise to the guests that were disappointed during this time.

One of the most exquisite Boutique Hotels (or High End Bed & Breakfasts) my husband and I have EVER stayed in... This place is a real gem and worth every penny. There are only 4 rooms in the entire hotel and each room has an awesome view of the bay.

The Delamore is relatively new and the decor is very contemporary and modern and has been featured in travel magazines. All the rooms have views of the bay...the shower has a "spa" feel with a ceiling shower head, stone floors and beautiful sinks.

What really makes this place stand out really is the attention to detail from every angle...the decor, the furnishings, the fully stocked bar, the daily nightcap of truffles and baileys...and I won't mention anymore because you will have to experience this for yourself

Breakfast is prepared by a gourmet chef and is made based on your request- pancakes, waffles, omelets, fritatta...whatever- EVERYTHING is homemade- even the muffins. I would even spend the extra and enjoy a pre fix dinner prepared especially for you by the chef. we did...and we are STILL talking about it!

Owners are extremely helpful with recommendations of daytime activities, etc. It feels like you are staying at your wealthy friend's house with all the privacy you need... They even took us to meet our ferry the day we were leaving!!! The hospitality made our trip feel "great" rather than just "good."

No negatives to write about- absolutely a MUST if you are in Auckland and in a romantic mood with your significant other...you will be WOWed...

Service, food, room, and staff beyond all expectations. Truly a great experience on our first visit to Waiheke. Will try and return on our next trip to New Zealand. We come at least once a year to New Zealand. Will recommend to all our traveling friends.
