“Quite unlike other hotels”

The experience is rather like staying in a well staffed private house. Brilliant chef who served up marvellous dinners and breakfasts. Lovely room with superb view. Great place to unwind.
The only caveat is that we got bitten on two nights by mosquitoes; I would recommend advising the hotel not to open the windows and turn on the lights in the room in the evening (which they do as a matter of course) and bring plenty of mosquito repellent.
For lunch avoid Mudbrick which is very touristy (coaches arrived constantly when we were there) and try Cable Bay.

Stayed there for one night over the rugby world cup and also invited some special friends to join us. Unbelieveable little place with first rate service and food. The host & hostess Jonathon and Sevele couldn't have done more for us on our special day. Incredible experience and worth every dollar

Room Tip: Try the Light House Room - unreal!

We stayed at the Boatshed for three nights in September and it truly was the loveliest place we stayed at during our three weeks away - and one of the best places we've ever stayed. Our room was beautiful, the location superb and the food was amazing. I'd recommend it without hesitation.

We began our honeymoon at this wonderful hotel and we were still talking about it whilst we were at our second destination. It was perfect from start to finish. Waiheke Island is a stunning setting, with gorgeous beaches and vineyards producing sensational wines. The hotel is perched above a very pretty little beach and within a 5 minute walk to the main street. It's furnished elegantly and a lot of thought has been put into the small touches that make the whole experience so unforgettable. Fascinating coffee table books throughout the main area and a lovely fireplace to read them by, and with only 8 rooms you feel that the attention is solely on you. The aesthetic is chic and comfortable and we were quite reluctant to leave the hotel as we felt so relaxed and happy there. Our boatshed room was divine, with a much used fire in the room and beautiful decor throughout, topped off by a private deck and deckchairs to chill out and read in. The staff are so warm and friendly but never cross the line into being intrusive. Jonathan is the consummate host, there when you need a question answered or a wine recommendation but never overbearing. We had an in room massage which was positively glorious and without a doubt the best thing about this incredible hotel is the food. The chef, Peter, whips up truly delicious and very gourmet breakfasts and our only regret is that we didn't dine in every night. The one dinner we had there was superb and very romantic. You get so much value for the cost, it is completely justified for such a luxury experience. We can't wait to return.

Room Tip: The fireplaces in the boatshed rooms are gorgeously cosy

I was working for several months in Auckland and really need a close (yet distant) break...Waiheke take's 40 minutes to get a world away! The Boatshed is a seriously nice place, fantastic common areas and numerous spaces to chill. Wonderful meals and great rooms...every corner left me thinking; "why can't I decorate like that?".

I only stayed a night...you need two. My only negative; the owner is a nice fellow, but...he needs to make a decision; is he running a business or living there...it's hard to "make yourself at home" in someone else's. This may be more to do with my general unease with the B&B 'thing' and it's a minor point...The Boatshed is expensive by NZ standards...but well worth it.

Room Tip: all rooms are good

We went for our honeymoon their, and after the long exhausting flight we were in paradise. Fantastic Location and super friendly staff (Thumbs up to Jonathan) . The little beach in front of the hotel is perfect cosying up spot. Just a short walk from the town, which has very nice restaurants (Stefanos Pizzeria Wow). Ideal spot for couples looking for a lovely private time together.

We stayed one night in Waiheke in February to catch the annual Sculptures by the Bay exhibition. The Boat Shed has been featured in many hip/ design hotel guide books and it was easy to see why: the entire place has been lovingly put together by someone with a very tasteful eye and a love for all things nautical. It was a treasure trove of old mariner's lamps and compasses, boat bits and ship parts. Special touches include the chess set with captains for kings, lighthouses for rooks, and seagulls for pawns! The breakfast in the morning was wonderful, fresh-cooked eggs made to a style of our choice, fresh fruits - just perfect. It's not really possible to get around Waiheke without a car, and the boat shed was set a little high up on a winding road that took us about 10 minutes of backtracking to find. While I loved all the little details and how exquisitely it was put together, I should mention that it was very warm in February when we were in Waiheke, and the Boat Shed has neither air-conditioning nor fan. It got quite hot in the afternoon, so if you are someone who gets sticky easily, this place will not be comfortable for you. I loved the place, but my husband found it too warm especially when trying to sleep at night (we had to close the windows because of insects), considering we were paying about NZ$600+ per night, it's a wonderfully atmospheric place, but not quite in the category of luxury which you might expect from the price tag.

Room Tip: All the boat sheds are equally charming, although you might want to book the Light House for the bes...
