“Perfect Bush Setting, Great Cooking”
Reviewed March 15, 2010

Punga Lodge has a rustic charm, not flash but very homely, and good value for 3 night stay including car ferry from Auckland. Our room was clean, breakfast good with fresh muffins and complimentary afteroon tea & cooking great. The drive and internal access is fairly steep & could cause problems for infirm guests, but this is compensated with the views of bush and birds in the valley. Rob & Dyan give advice and have good contacts to make bookings. Little Oneroa beach has facilities, safe swiming and very close or use the complimentary spa in colder weather Altogether a great place for a relaxing break.

We had a fantastic few days at Punga Lodge. The home baked afternoon tea was a treat, and we always made sure we were back in time for that from whatever we were doing. Dyan gave us great tips on where to go and how to get there. Found the other staff really helpful and friendly. Loved that you could walk via the coast to some great restaurants and shops in town. Really enjoyed just sitting on the deck amongst all the trees and reading. We would happily go back again if we make it back to Auckland sometime.

Thanks Rob Dyan Cookie and Tiger for the wonderful weekend. As there were three couple we had the lodge, the ensuite rooms were clean and comfortable. The views were lovely over the bush. Close to everything you need and the taxi service is superb.
Dyan you make the nicest muffins and the choclate cake is to die for. This is excellent value for money. Local knowledge invaluable.
We will be back at some stage.

Staying here was a mixed bag. The rooms were perfectly adequate and even had a nice view. Terrible pillows though....flattened within an inch of their lives.

The thing that would prevent me from returning again was our hostess. She was friendly at first and actually arranged a tour for us, which was nice. But for some reason, she thought my husband looked German (we're American, but he's blonde, so maybe that's it?). She mentioned it every single time she saw us at least two or three times, escalating it so that by the end of our trip, she started saying "Sieg Heil," upon seeing him. Maybe I'm being picky, but on vacation I would kind of not like to have members of my family compared to the Nazis...

Wonderful cottages/apartment, great location and surrounding, hidden in midst of tropical rainforest. Just walking distance to little oneroa beach, which has a park for little one. Splendid hospitality, with cute cats and freshly home made muffins in morning and afternoon, excellent service. Has FREEVIEW Satelite TV with crystal clear pictures of all local channels. Waiheke island is really beautiful a "gem" of auckland. Top rated for scenes and would be a art painters ecstasy, real bliss.

We stumbled across punga lodge via the iSite service. it was all very last minute and so I hadn't read the reviews before staying. We really enjoyed our stay - the owners were extremely friendly and helpful.

Our chalet was more than adequate for our needs, 2 bedrooms, kitchen, lounge and bathroom etc no sign of mildew and perfectly clean. We made use of the free spa on offer and the complimentary afternoon tea and cakes were great. Information about surrounding attractions and restaurants is all available at the lodge and in the welcome packs.

The bus stop is up a reasonable hill (but only 5mins walk) and oneroa is up and down a hill (probably 15-20mins) so the location is good as long as you don't mind a short walk here and there. Taxis on waiheke are expensive, buses are frequent and you can also hire cars.

Continental breakfast was ok value for $10 but there are plenty of cafes in Oneroa or you could make your own in the accommodation.

Overall we were happy with the quality of accomodation - it was at the top end of our budget but if you filled a chalet with 4 people it would be very good value
