Harbour View Motel is well positioned to catch the ferry. The view on the harbour is great we had a room to overview it all. The host help us with our campervan to get a nice parking space which helped us to get off easly. The room and the bed was very comfortable. within minutes we was in the center of Picton for shopping and coffee.Picton is a nice place to stay two days and relax, several restaurants serve good food also on gourmet base.

We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of November and had the end unit on the top floor. The room was huge, with a very comfortable king size bed, a large sitting area, good bathroom and kitchen and a very large balcony with superb views of the harbour. Spotlessly clean. The owner managers Keith and Lynn were extremely pleasant and helpful, and Keith very kindly gave us an early-in-the-morning ride to the ferry the day we left. This was MUCH appreciated. All in all, our stay at the Harbour View was excellent and we would highly recommend it.

Although it's a small ferry town and we weren't expecting anything special, Picton was a very pleasant surprise at the end of 2 solid weeks of driving, and it's well worth spending a couple of nights here. From a scenic perspective, the area is hilly and truly spectacular, the town is very pleasant, there's a very attractive park by the harbour, there are some nice restaurants, and the people we met were all very friendly. We took a float plane for a 40 minute ride over the islands - expensive but the views were tremendous. The town gets very quiet in the evening, but we enjoyed walking back after dinner (5 or 6 minutes, max), relaxing on the balcony and enjoying the view.

My guess is that more people stay in Picton if they're taking the ferry to Wellington rather than from Wellington, and that those who don't stop head south to Blenheim and the wine country, or west to Nelson (which we didn't visit). Blenheim was a disappointment, Picton is much prettier, so stop here, relax for a day or two and enjoy it!

It's rare that my husband and I aren't ready to go home from a vacation, but after staying at the Harbour View Motel on our trip to New Zealand we were honestly sad to leave. The room was always spotless - we complimented the cleaning staff on their attention to detail. The kitchenette was very convenient, as there were a few grocery stores nearby so we stocked up on cereal, milk, juice, etc. and were able to save some money on breakfasts and snacks. The location is perfect - a very short walk from the main area of Picton where all of the shops and restaurants are located. The bed was extremely comfortable, the view of the harbor was magnificent, and I loved the bathroom! It was quite spacious and had a nice heater and a heated towel rack. All in all, this was a very enjoyable motel and we would 100% stay here again.

We stayed here at the start and end of our Queen Charlotte Track.walk. The motel is in a good location, close to the centre of town, ferry terminal and the pick up point for the transfer to the start of the track.
It's up high and we had great views of the harbour from our balcony. Room was very clean and comfortable. The manager was very helpful and at $AU145 a night, it was reasonably priced.
If you are doing the walk you will need to take your lunch for first day on the track. The bakery in town had delicious filled rolls available early.

You can trust the pictures. All rooms have a stunning view and also the interior looks exactly like on the pictures. The host was very helpful, giving us great advise on what to do in Picton and recommending a great place for lunch at a winery in Blenheim. Has everything you can ask for in a motel. .
