“OK but pricey for a basic meal”
Reviewed May 17, 2013

We had a good look around town for a family restaurant for a young family and found this was the most suitable on a very quiet Thursday night. Warm and with friendly staff, service was quick and efficient with decent servings. The childrens meal were junky eg chicken nuggets and chips but reasonable quantity. Roast of the day was fine with good veggies but Cod had too much batter.. Cost just short of $100 which was a lot for this meal.

“Just poor”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

My wife and I came here 9 years ago and thought we would try it again ummm big mistake my wife had blue cod and chips which was mostly batter very poor value at $26 my meal was the beef burger which was seasoned with lots of pepper possibly to disguise the beef the bacon was almost transparent the ketchup with the meal was in a packet, the colour was the only thing that resembled ketchup it was vile, my wife also requested more tartare sauce this was portion controlled possibly the worst meal I have had in New Zealand my advice walk past

“Big Disappointment”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

Over the last 25years we have eaten at this restaurant at least once if not twice a year as we cross the Cook Strait and have been so satisfied it was just a case of walking there. Last Sunday we went and we did not enjoy the meal at all. My Blue cod meal consisted of one medium piece of fish ( the waiter when delivering the meal called it butterfish) that was very thin cooked in a very thick batter, a small to medium serve of not very crisp fries and a very loose salad. My husband ordered the pork roast and the meat served could only be called the scraps. There was not a sliced piece of pork on his plate. We did eat most of the meal and we complained to the waitress. The manageress did not take kindly to the criticism but did give us a 10% discount. We had always intended paying for the meal and did not ask for discount. The menu only stated for the wine list A glass of wine or a bottle of wine with no branding shown. I would say there has been a change of ownership in approximately the last two years. However we will never dine there again.

“Great Cuisine & Hospitality”

Very well prepared and great tasting food, the fresh blue cod is a must. Have been here a few times now and the host is always friendly and welcoming and would recommend to anyone looking for a good meal with plenty of flavour.
