we only managed to walk along the track for 4 hours ,but they scenery is magical and all mostly in the shade of the native bush, giant ferns etc ,so pretty ! We intend to return and walk a lot more of it next summer and stay in the lodges along the way.It is so accessible from the various bays in the sound.

To come back (from Los Angeles) to do it again - must mean we loved it the first time (2009) and we enjoyed it even more this year. Even the steady rain between the Fourneaux Lodge and Punga Cove lodge didn't take away from the our enjoyment. The three lodges where we stayed (Fourneaux, Punga Cove and Portage) were very comfortable and food served by the respective restaurants was very good.

A fantastic introduction to a multi day hike. The track is well maintained. It can be done as a whole- 71km or piece meal. The advantage of this walk is that each day has access to a water taxi so the choice is there to do as much or as little as suits. We ( family of 5 ) opted for the whole track which was done over 4 days. I would recommend it be done over 5 days for novice hikers. It can be then be done as 5 hours day 1, 4 hours day 2, day 3 is a long one of 8 hours, day 4 and 5 4 hours each. The accommodation along the track is good. Meals either have to be taken with and purchased before the start in Picton, or can be had at the hotels along the way. We had perfect service from Cougar lines who transported us to the start of the walk, and our baggage along the way, it was collected promptly and in our rooms on arrival at the next night;s accomodation. Word of warning - they left almost an hour earlier than arranged for the return to Picton, but all passengers were accounted for. We were lucky with the weather, only 1 day of rain, so plan the timing wisely.

A beautiful day for walking, selected do walk the 1st 15k so we could take the boat to the last point. The boat trip $150 for 2 was overpriced, tho the walk was nice there are walks in the area as good for zero dollars

This is a fabulous 4/5 day walk, with a well made easy walking track, fantastic views and lodges offering a variety of accommodation. Best of all a ferry will move your bags day by day, so no need to carry. We used Cougar line ferry, and stayed at Furneaux, Punga and Peppers Portage..
