“Exquisite scenery”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2013 via mobile

I would highly recommend this walk to anytime who loves coastal hiking. Scenery is amazing and there are lots of very comfortable and stylish accommodation places to stay along the track. We did it in 4 days but I'd recommend taking 5 so you can have a rest day and do some sea kyacking. Best stop for this would be Portage.

“Thanks to wilderness guides we had an unforgettable time on the Marlbrough sounds/ Queen Charlotte track”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2013

We really wanted to Kayak alongside the Queen Charlotte track without a guide and Wilderness offered exactly what we wanted. They didn't try & up- sell and despite going for the chrapest option (self-guided kayaking for 2 days) they made sure we had everything we needed in terms of kit as well as going out of their way to negotiate space for us in a campsite and keep us informed of any weather changes by texting throughout and suggesting routes accordingly. The staff were really friendly & helpful & I couldn't recommend them more highly.

We kayaked for a day and stayed on mistletoe bay- busy because it was nye but lovely spot & good facilities. Then back the next day with a few detours. The kayaking was pretty easy going until you have the wind against you, which happens a bit if you don't hug the shoreline but fine if you're reasonably fit. The scenery is absolutely beautiful and the waterway isn't too busy either as there are only a couple of tour providers there unlike The Abel Tasman which is meant to get pretty busy around that time. We walked a few bits of the track too- it really is stunning and well worth a visit!

Amazing organisation and support provided, lunches and luggage handled by operators with efficiency and friendliness. We would highly recommend this walk for the scenic beauty and the professionalism of this company.

“DOC camp grounds are cheap and cheerful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2013 via mobile

We planned to stay in backpackers on the queen charlotte track but once we found out the price ($NZ 40 - 60 per person per night!) we decided to camp.

The camp sites are picturesque and basic, so take everything you need with you.

There are some places to buy drinks and food along the track but they are super expensive.

Check the weather before you go!

“Great walk”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 7, 2013

I did only part of it, from TeMahia hotel to Portage hotel, it's all together approx 12km. On the beginning of the trail I took a detour to the hilltop and it rewarded me with 360degree view of the Sounds. Whole walk took 3hours+ half a hour rest all together. One advice- take plenty of water, I have not and paid for it with dehydration and blinding headache.
