We only had one night at this motel but wished we also had more. The accommodation was fantastic, clean and comfortable. Kent and Marie are very friendly and helpful and although they forgot to pick us up with their free ferry shuttle service, we didnt hold that against them. They did offer to take us to collect our hire car the next day!! Defo stay there again.

We unfortunately only spent one night at Gateway Motel !!!!.
Kent, Marie & their children are a lovely family - they treated us like old friends and even invited us to spend a few hours with them having a laugh & chatting over several beers ! ...... better still, they have a wonderful Boxer dog called Tyson - who they allowed us to take for a long walk all around Picton Harbour.
We spent over a month traveling all around NZ, and this was by far the friendliest, best quality & fairest priced accommodation we stayed in throughout our entire holiday.
The motel is ideally situated, has ample parking space and is a mere few mins walk to all shops & local restaurants
If you're going to be in Picton for a while, you need look no further..............

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet, top quality & very comfortable

We stayed for two nights, before and after walking the Queen Charlotte Track. You cannot beat this for location and value for money. While it is an older style motel, the two rooms we stayed in were refurbished, with modern fittings, clean and very comfortable. It is right in the middle of the main street with cafes and restaurants right outside the door. A large supermarket and a large liquor barn are each only 100 metres away. It is about a 3 minute walk to the water taxi and a 7 minute walk to the Interislander ferry terminal. Kent walks all new guests to their room and insists on carrying their luggage. I had a problem with the soles separating on my hiking boots a day before starting the 4 day walk. Kent was most helpful in trying to get this problem rectified. Excess luggage not required on the walk could be left at the motel until you return.

Room Tip: Some rooms overlook the High Street but traffic is light and any noise is low so we had no problems...

This is Glynis from Kapiti 4 Seasons Tours. Last weekend eight of us went to Picton from Wellington. Once again we stayed at the Gateway Motel, this time meeting new hosts Kent and Marie. The motel has always had a central location but the upgrades and attention to detail makes it a wonderful and affordable place to stay. Kent picked us up from the Ferry and also took us over to the area where the Mail boat leaves from... I went back with Kent to put luggage in the rooms before taking the short walk to the Marina to get on the Beachcomber Mail boat... The licensed restaurant next door to the motel had also changed hands, it is now Koru and the food was excellent... The Gateway is close to everything and the staff are amazing...

Room Tip: We had ground floor for our seniors and the way the complex is built there are no rooms above these...
