Aldan Lodge provided our group a great home base for our trip to the Picton area. Each unit had a small kitchen and there was a grocery store and liquor store right across the street. The restaurants and downtown area are all within walking distance. Our only two complaints were the limited internet (had to pay additional past a very modest limit) and the top floor of the units got pretty hot. Otherwise, great value and definitely recommend for a budget accommodation.

This was a last minute booking made hours before our backpacking arrival on the suggestion of another (full) motel in Picton. Our expectations were not high, but actually we were delighted with what we found and would have chosen to stay longer if the motel had not been fully booked later. It is very well organised - our only reason for not giving 5 stars is that, being a motel, it is more impersonal than a B&B. The room was spacious, very comfortable, quiet and the kitchen area was equipped with everything needed. The Intercity bus from Christchurch stopped right outside the motel, too!

When we arrived we called the reception phone as the reception was empty and were shown to our accommodation. The property was very clean and tidy. We were hungry and went to the shops to get some meat as there was a BBQ on the side and had a great cook up. The beds are comfortable to sleep in and there is a good amount of room. When we were leaving they had a new receptionist who was very friendly and the manager went out of her way to get me a newspaper. Location is fantastic and the view is breathtaking. I would stay again as it is close to the ferry and town. Kids loved the free wifi.

Room Tip: Choose the room at the back as it is quite and close to the BBQ

We stayed 2 nights here and it was well located ( a 5 minute walk to the centre of town) and well-presented. Rooms were clean and spacious and the owner was friendly and accommodating. During our time here, we went shopping, took a float-plane flight (awesome!) and visited some of the local wineries.

Had a room with a mezzanine floor, with three beds and a gorgeous view! Kids LOVED it. Supermarket over the road was brilliant. Very clean, full kitchen, great coffee and hot chocolate sachets. Free wifi and DVD use was brilliant! Easy walk to town and ferry. Just a shame the lady owner wasn't more friendly. The man was nice and helped us carry out suitcases upstairs. Loved the bottles of moisturiser and body wash.
