“Wonderful service”
Reviewed March 26, 2014

Our ferry arrived late coming into Picton and when we arrived at the offices, in our car, the boat was scheduled to leave in 5 minutes. We were resigned to the fact that we wouldn't make the boat
as we needed to drop our car off at a storage area. This meant that we would miss the first part of our 3 day scheduled walk. But that didn't happen ! The Cougar staff promptly took our bags and offered to drop the the car off for us. Amazing service - beyond the call of duty..

“Great way to see the sounds”
Reviewed March 25, 2014 via mobile

I worked in the Sounds for four months over this past summer and frequently took the Cougarline to go into town and to do parts of the Queen Charlotte Track.

Office staff are very friendly and professional. Skippers are super friendly as well and offer a lot of interesting commentary on the way out to your destination. I learned so much about the history of the area and wildlife from them. Love Cole, Fred, Russel, and Tim!!

Sometimes the boat will run a bit late because it is one of the only ways people get groceries and supplies. They also stop when there are orcas or dolphins nearby...so you can't really blame them! The skippers are really good at spotting them and will stop or reroute the boat for a few minutes so you can get a good look and a picture...it's pretty amazing.

You can also trust them to be gentle with your bags...I have ordered eggs numerous times and they are always fully intact when they arrive. :)

Definitely recommend them for your transportation needs!

“Cruise and walk”
Reviewed March 10, 2014

We booked the 3 hr cruise and walk from Resolution Bay to Furneaux Lodge the day before at the Picton Visitor Information Centre, which was great as we got useful information (where to park etc) from the excellent Customer Service Officer there.

Staff at the Cougar Line office and on the boat were very friendly and helpful. As part of the cruise, the boat transports passengers and goods to the resorts and private homes in the Sound – this means a different number of stops en route to your destination. We enjoyed very much checking out the different deliveries (bananas...furniture...), and the deckhand was working very hard loading and unloading cargo (and sometimes passengers...) at every stop.

We got dropped at Resolution Bay approximately 1.15 hr after leaving Picton – while not a luxurious yacht, the boat was very comfortable with free tea and coffee available, entertaining commentary and explanations from the captain, and great views of the Sound.

From Resolution Bay, there’s a bit of a scramble up a hill through private land until you get to the track. The track is fairly easy to walk – on the day we visited, it was pretty dry, but might be a bit harder to walk due to muddy and slippery parts after rains. There are only one or two steeper bits to negotiate, and almost half way to Furneaux there’s a lovely lookout with a couple of benches to rest. There aren’t many signs on the track with distances, so it was a bit hard to judge how far we still had to go, but it took us less than 3 hours to walk to Furneaux (including a short lunch stop), and we’re average walkers. We got to Furneaux with plenty of time for a drink before the boat arrived to take us back (approximately 1.5 hrs back to Picton - thanks for the entertaining stories about the settlement of the Sound).

Pipcnic tip: Picton Village Bakkerij does great sandwiches, filled rolls and Danish pastries for a packed lunch.

“Good staff, good service”
Reviewed March 8, 2014

Very helpful in sorting out a private transfer for us as our travel agent had made a bit of a mess of it and had us coming back from the Lodge on a taxi that would have been too late for the ferry to Wellington.
Yes, the standard taxi service can vary the times a little - we weren't affected but we did see some other people have to wait a bit longer than they'd thought. However, our private taxi was bang on time (well, early actually) and got us back to Picton in good time. Then the ladies in the office were really helpful and let us store our luggage for an hour and told us where to get a good breakfast!

“A good service”
Reviewed February 20, 2014 via mobile

Oh, I think some of the moaning reviewers need to relax: ignore them and look at the positive reviews
We were late for the pick-up time but the boat waited; no problem and they even threw in a dolphin show (for free!).
