“Warm welcome and amazing food”
Reviewed April 6, 2012

We stayed here on the last night of our South Island trip to Abel Tasman. This had been highly recommended and it was even better than we expected. The hosts, Margaret and Bill were exceptionally welcoming as were their two lovely dogs Clyde and Duffy. The room was spacious, clean and beautifully decorated, the house, a marvel of interesting antiques and curios. The highlight was Margaret's cooking. I could have eaten everything off the menu, but I chose venison patties and risotto ball and butter fish - both were delicious. They were preparing for the farmers market the next day so we were woken up to the wonderful aroma of freshly cooked pies and scones. I thoroughly recommend Margaret and bills hospitality to anyone traveling around Picton.

My wife, three small children & I stayed with Bill & Margaret in their beautiful character filled home for a couple of nights in Jan 2012. We had 2 rooms, including the Picton View Suite, separated by a corridor but also connecting through a shared bathroom which suited us perfectly. The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the food: delicious breakfasts, fresh fruits & vegies from the garden & on our second night, a restaurant standard 4 course dinner with wine which was the highlight of our stay - great portions too for those of us with a earth appetite !!. And on our departure, Margaret put together a wonderful picnic for our drive down the West Coast - which lasted the family not just one, but two good lunches ! In summary, we cannot recommend Kippilaw House highly enough & look forward to returning on our next trip north !! Many thanks indeed.

Room Tip: The Picton View Suite is highly recommended..

Bill and Margaret welcomed us with cake and tea. Our room was spacious, well decorated and extremely comfortable with modern ensite facilities. The room opened out onto a delightfull cottage garden.
We had the catered evening meal, Margaret is an excellent cook and we dined in style. Bill does superb butler service with a smile. We sat there like Kings and Queens and lapped it all up.
Thank you Margeret and Bill for making our stay in Picton one to remember.

Room Tip: We had the downstairs suite

If you're in need of a treat and want to feel a bit pampered then I can't think of anywhere better than Margaret and Bill's B&B. We spent Christmas Day here and were looked after so well, ate such amazing food and drank such lovely local wine we completely forgot to feel homesick and miss our families! Kippilaw is super convenient for the Picton ferry (if you're lucky, you might even be met at the port) and the rooms are spacious, uncluttered (contrary to someone else's review) and comfortable. A big thanks to Margaret and Bill for making our Christmas so special and for feeding us up before we went off on our adventures in the Abel Tasman and Kaikoura.

Room Tip: Book early!

We are from the netherlands and enjoyed our xmas 2011 at the kippilaw house with Margaret and Bill. We had a fantastic xmas diner and had loads of fun and were treated very nicely. We had a downstairs room with open doors to the garden which allowed us to have breakfast in the garden. Service was great, food was lovely and the hosts ossom.
If you neer a good, relaxing and nice place to stay, go to the Kippilaw House!
