“Delivering perfection”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

We were treated to the best Xmas Eve present when we booked Sounds Connection for a Gourmet Wine Experience, Sarah at their Picton Office arrange everything with nothing overlooked. Originally there was supposed to be another couple join us for the tour but their ferry from Welllington was running late but that was no problem. Sam our driver and guide took us to our first destination Johanneshoff where we were introduced to the staff Sam excused himself so he could drive back to Picton to greet the late arriving ferry and collect the couple who were booked on the tour. Whilst he was away we sampled excellent wine and toured the underground cellars, Sam timed it to perfection arriving back with a couple from New York within minutes of us finishing the cellar tour. From there we were chauffered to Hans Herzog for a set menu meal prepared by Michelin Star Chefs followed by generous samples of amazing wines of variatials we did not expect to find in Marlborough along with the usual variatials. During our lunch Sam and Sarah were working to get an additional venue lined up so the couple from New York could experience Champaign style wines from the region, they managend to squeeze in an amazing stop that included four styles of the wine made by wine makers who trained in Champagne France. From here we were taken to Cloudy Bay which again supplied an excellent selection of local wines.
Our final scheduled stop was Makana Gourmet Chocolates who we suspected stayed open late for us as they had stopped making chocolate and were having champaign in the demonstration kitchen, we were each offered four chocolates and they went away and got a few others to meet our requests. To top it all off when we returned to the coach Sam had four boxes of Champaign Truffles one for each of us. Sam and Sarah had also rescheduled our fishing and water transport on the Sounds to suit the fact the tour had been extended to ensure everybody got the full experience. Not a cent more was asked although it was probably justified

“Not as good as expected”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

We had Sam pick us from the Picton terminal. He seemed knowledgable about the history of Picton and wineries. He didn't follow the schedule as given on the website and made a silly comment "there are only a few hours in a day and not possible to do everything". It doesn't make sense to have a schedule with the list of wineries/lunch etc and not follow it because there's no time. The first winery where we had lunch (called Hans) was good. The rest of the wineries didn't care about going into any details and they seemed not interested at all. We paid NZD 300 per head for the ferry and wine tour and I don't think it's worth it. If you are going to visit Marlborough, please pick your wineries based on online reviews and other research and rent a car to drive around/have someone drive around if you are planning on drinking. It'll be much cheaper

“Winery Tour”
Reviewed December 18, 2013

Had a great afternoon out with Sounds Connection, our driver John was a mine of information and added to our trip.
We visited several wineries in our three and a half hour trip, cost was around $69.00 each, our group was seven persons and with Johns leadership we had a great time.
Highly recommended Sounds Connection really went out of their way to make our afternoon in Picton enjoyable. We will return for a longer stay next time and of course we will use Sounds Connection.

“Enjoyable and informative ”

Really knowledgable guide (Sam) who kept the driving portions interesting and seemed to really love what he was doing. The place we stopped for lunch was lovely and the cellar hosts all greeted us warmly. Would recommend!

“Second time even better”
Reviewed November 22, 2013

Having already used Sounds Connections on a previous visit we were very keen to use them again and once more they exceeded our expectations, as luck would have it we were again guided by Sam, he was just as pleasant and educational as he was a couple of years earlier. I am not sure if it was luck or planning but we went to a totally different range of wineries and had lunch at another outstanding winery.
We expected that the commentary would be very similar but probably 90% of it was new, the maxi van was new, the range of wines were quite different but still top notch. What hadn't change was the way we were welcomed and the way we felt we were special.
If Sam is reading this. we have decided to move to Picton and bought a house yesterday, we told the agent to give you some commission,
