“My first hostel experience”

Although we were only in Picton for a night it was a good place to spend the night. We got off the ferry and it was a quick 5 minute walk to Atlantis. Also, again, another quick 5 minute walk to the train station for the Coastal Pacific train. So the location was very convenient. Atlantis has a very cool vibe to it and has lots of interesting things as well as people to meet. For a cheap place to stay for a night or two, Atlantis is definitely the place to be at.

Atlantis is a great place to chill out and meet people. Rooms are lovely and the facilities are clean and well equipped. Free breakfast was great and free dessert is always a bonus. Shiera and Howard are great hosts and will bend over backwards to help you out.Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: Dont be scared by the huge dorm! it has 28 beds, but it is all sectioned off into areas with 2 bunks...

We stayed here one night because we had to catch the ferry from Picton to Wellington. The location is ideal as it is about 5 minutes from the ferry. Price was very reasonable for the time of year. The kitchen is well stocked and fairly large. Our room was very small and cold even though they claim they have central heating. We were given a portable heater but it was so loud that we had to turn it off. The building was cold as well as it is winter here, again despite claims it has central heating. Showers & toilets were too far from our room. The lady owner was very friendly and helpful. People staying there also seemed friendly.

We had room no2, which is one of the flats with kitchen and bathroom on their own. Wthe second room was not used, so we had the flat for us - nice for 70$. The rooms are nicely decorated, the kitchen has everything we needed to cook (though take care, you might stick to the knobs of the drawers and the regulators of the cooking area longer than you wish, they are so dirty), and the bathroom even has a heater. We would have been delighted, if there wasn't a stench in the whole appartment as soon as not all windows were wide open (which they were when we inspected it). It smells as if a dog was held in there for s couple of months. Get this carpet floor out there, its disgusting!

From the wonderful, and quirky welcome to the amazing staff/guests this backpackers continued to amaze me, by checking in you've joined an international family with an outstanding mum, 'Shira', this backpackers has everything it needs and bonuses like free desert, just because desert is wonderful. TRAVELERS BE WARNED: if you check in you may not want to leave, and some don't for years...
This will be my preferred accommodation in Picton for the foreseeable future and I will recommend it to anyone who will listen.

Sheira and Howard Hudson have created a cozy and most welcoming retreat in the heart of Picton on Queen Charlotte Sound. There are plenty of rooms, kitchen and bathroom facilities reasonably priced at the waterfront gem.

Room Tip: Check out the room with the poster bed. A must for the romantics among you

Our group stayed one night at this hostel before biking the Queen Charlotte walkway. They were very accommodating with finding a safe place for us to leave our bikes inside. We found the hosts very friendly and helpful (and bit eccentric, but in a nice way). The hostel has a somewhat quirky layout and decor, but the beds were good and we had a great sleep. The kitchen was well set up, and spotless. We were delighted with the free dessert that was provided by the host - yummy apple crumble on the night we stayed. I would have no hesitation in staying there again.
