Owner description: The Giant's House - A historic Akaroa house with original artworks, terraced gardens with sculptures and mosaics. Very Unique. A creative feast and a wonderful experience. Romantic secluded and quiet, but only a few minutes walk to the centre of Akaroa. The Giant's House was the first bank managers house in Akaroa, built 1880 of totara and kauri. It is grand in size, proportions, and features. Elegant and comfortable, it is designed and decorated in the french style. Being the home of an artist it balances and contrasts the historic and contemporary. Both the house and terraced gardens are full of surprises -expect the unexpected at The Giant's House!

“Wonderful garden”
Reviewed March 21, 2014 via mobile

We read about this place on Facebook and decided it was worth a visit. So glad we did. Although it is a steep climb up the road it was so worth it, the garden is just full of wonderful mosaics and the garden itself is superb. As well as being a very talented artist, the garden is humorous and so beautifully made. At $20 each it was well worth the money.

“Magical fun place”
Reviewed March 21, 2014

What a fun place to visit! The creations are very creative and bigger-than-life. Josie, the artist, greets guests the last hour of the day, and it was a joy to meet her. My photos don't do the place or pieces justice. Looks like it would be enjoyable to stay at her B&B. Loved the music playing as well, as it helped create the atmosphere.

“WOW”
Reviewed March 19, 2014

We probably wouldn't have found or visited this without being told about it by a lovely lady at Akaroa Dolphins. We were glad we did, the $20 each to get in was well worth it. The gardens and sculptures are amazing. It would be easy to spend a very long time here as there is lovely places to sit and take it all in. Josie is such a talented artist, Everywhere we looked was another amazing piece of art. Highly recommended.
