“Lovely place to dine”
Reviewed July 23, 2013

While staying in Akaroa we went for afternoon tea at Bully Hayes as my daughter and I had read the menu on the board outside while walking one day and really wanted to go there. It was a wet and windy day so it was lovely to go inside to the nice warm atmosphere, would love to eat out on the sidewalk on a fine day. The food was great on everyones account (family of six). The boys had burgers, girls had fries and we had hot chocolates and dessert. It wasnt a cheap restaurant but we felt it was definately worth the cost of the meals as it was so lovely and the staff were very good.

“Nice place, though perhaps a tiny bit overpriced”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

I had breakfast there one morning. The food itself was great and worth the price tag. The coffees however were strangely expensive, not fantastic and the bizarre price structuring ($1 more for a latte over a cappuccino from what I remember) was something new to me.

The lunch/dinner menu looked fairly complex and not being a particularly adventurous eater - I passed up the chance to eat dinner there.

“Substantial Breakfast”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

If you are in search of a good brunch/large breakfast Bully Hayes certainly fits the bill. Not a bargain, but certainly value for money. The Salmon omlette was very enjoyable. The Blueberry pancakes with 'maple' syrup were nothing to write home about but abundant.

“Great Value”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

The meal we had here was huge and very filling, they said a light meal - Fish & Chips but it alone would have done for both of us.

“Bully Hayes and Akaroa go hand in hand”
Reviewed June 26, 2013

If you get to Akaroa you have to spare an evening to visit Bully Hayes. The atmosphere is warm and inviting (for a mid-winter time-slot), the staff very friendly, the service top notch and the food is unbeatable, especially considering we tried to customise some courses as well! I challenge anyone to better their venison rump steak with chorizo & spiced mashed kumara!! Try the mulled wine too!
This place must be good (don't listen to the sceptics!) - the local Council were meeting there at the same time!! A little pricey but quality is well worth it and we'll go there again!
