Great views and close to town. 10 mins walk (not suitable for seniors). Kitchen is marvellous, but bathroom is a bit stinky and just not cleaned thoroughly and often enough. Non the less, great stay and good to watch the sun set from our van over the bay.

Dear Guest,
We thank you for your review. The facilities are cleaned thoroughly every day at about 10.30 - 11 am and again checked at about 6 pm. We are very particular in providing the cleanest possible facilities. However should a guest use the facilities in between the above times it might possibly have created a smell. We are currently looking at installing atomisers to provide a fresh smell at all times.

Akaroa is a beautiful location, with stunning views around every bend and an old french feel carried down by it's history. Business revolves around this tourism, and accommodation isn't cheap.

This is important, because while I'd say some of the facilities haven't been upgraded in a while, and the price is higher than other Top 10s I've stayed in with nicer facilities, the price is good for the location.

The campground is on the hill above the town - hence the views. Apparently there is a path you can take from the bottom of the campsite, but we chose to use our vehicle back and forth. I didn't feel the urge to try walk 15 mins back up a steep hill.

We stayed in a "deluxe cabin" which was a standard cabin with a queen bed and dresser rather than bunk beds. This made it more spacious and the smell of fresh oil, and cleanliness was lovely when we entered. There were plenty of duvets and it felt luxurious. Because we wanted linen and towels provided (went on the bike), it was only $5 more to have a bigger, more comfortable bed already made up and we went for it. It was odd though that the furniture was placed under the only 2 hooks in the room which made them hard to use.

We were right next to the facilities which was handy, and while older they weren't too bad. Water was REALLY hot (half way round was as high as I'd go) which is a nice perk, there was a changing area with hooks and a bench for each and they were free. They seemed clean, but other guests had a rude habit of leaving their toiletries in cubicles which was off-putting and I've never seen that before.

The kitchen had a couple of large tables (and plenty of picnic tables outside), and loads of bench space and stove tops, and was very clean. Bear in mind the cast iron took AGES to heat up so we could cook, and it was really frustrating there were no bins. Rubbish had to be taken outside to the trailer for this purpose and recycling. I understand this must make it efficient for staff, as they only have to hook one trailer up to clean out the whole camp, but it's actually really inconvenient and I've not seen this before either.

In saying this, it was a good price for the area, the room was comfortable and clean, and there was nothing wrong with the facilities. A couple of minor niggles is no biggie.

Stayed on a powered site, after having stayed at most Top 10 holiday parks in the South Island, this I would say is the worst, whilst it has a great view over Akaroa it is over priced for the facilities provided which are run down and very tired. The recycling facilities are a joke as all rubbish is put in a garbage trailer together which hadn't been emptied for some time. Many off the water taps in the park leaked and there are a limited number of hard stands for motorhomes and of what there is, are packed in on top of each other. The bathrooms are tired and look as if nothing has been done in upkeep since 1970. eg the avocado hand basins and grouting missing from in-between tiles. Would I recommend this place to anyone, not likely.

We have two rubbish trailers. One for recycling and one for household waste. Unfortunately the recycle trailer had to go for repair which left us with only one trailer for 4 days. All showers and vanities are currently being refurbished. Since taking over as managers two months ago we are constantly working on upgrading certain areas of the park to ensure the highest standards possible.

As a top 10 site we had high expectations of this site but none of them materialised. The facilities were clean but in need of an upgrade.

However, the hairdryer in the ladies toilets sparked when switched on and when we informed the site management they said they already knew it was faulty and that an electrician had been called for Monday (this was on a Saturday morning!). There is no sign informing it should not be used. We tried to get across how dangerous this could be but the management did not seem interested. Eventually be said he would put an 'out of order' sign up, but when we next used the toilets 45 mins later no sign was present.

We have been very pleases with all of the other Top 10 sites we have stayed at but feel this one lets the brand down.

Unfortunately equipment occasionally break down, which was the case with the hairdryer. A new hairdryer had been ordered for an electrician to install. However being in Akaroa the response from trade people is sometimes longer. A notice had been placed on this appliance but must have been removed. A new notice was placed on the appliance as soon as was possible after being advised by the guest.

We stayed here one night while in Akaroa. We paid the extra few dollars to get harbour views and it was money well spent. The views were incredible from our camper! The facilities were clean and well kept. Nice hot showers!

We stayed one night in a camper and thought the view was totally amazing. Facilities were clean and quite adequate. A lovely little town a short walk away and fabulous drive in along the lower road and an even better one out along the ridge. A wonderful last stay for our 10 days in NZ
