Arrived at Akaroa Holiday Park in the dark and bucketing down. The plane left Auckland late because of fog at Christchurch airport. This was the first day of our 5 day very first campervan adventure. The park is on the hill behind the coastal town of Akaroa and I paid extra to back the campervan onto the edge of the park so as to get a beautiful view of the town. Silly me it was do wet and cold that all the windows fogged up and we couldn't see a thing. The facilities that we used were really good and I think under different weather conditions could have been great. We had to drive down to the town to find a cafe for dinner - too far to walk on the road although there was a track in the bush but not to be used without a torch and in wet conditions.

Stayed one night camping having cycled out from Christchurch and charged $37NZ for a one man tent, nearly twice the amount of most Top Ten camp sites. The facilities don't even match the facilities of other Top Ten sites. Would advise the owners to check out other Top Ten's. Met a motor home owner on the way back to Christchurch, who had stayed at the site and also thought it was expensive for what you got.

Thank you for the feedback, we do follow up on suggested ways of improving our park. As a consequence I have checked the current charges for unpowered sites in all 23 South Island TOP 10 parks, and find the average is $37.37, with 14 charging much more, and only 5 less. The highest is $46. Given the location of our park perhaps we are too low? We thank you for your feedback.

What a wonderful place to stay, great views, nice and clean, well kept holiday park. Weather was fantastic. Cruise ships coming in to the harbour a bonus. Quaint little French village in our own small country, you don't even have to travel overseas!!! A variety of boat cruises in the harbour to choose from. Only down side of park is Cindy only gave us 1 option, would have enjoyed a sailing boat cruise. Great eating out places, really enjoyed L'Hotel. Thanks management for options to eat out. So many things to do in this little place. Will be back!!

This place was our first camper stop during our time in NZ and not a bad start at all.

We stayed here for just the one night, during a quiet time of the year, so found the facilities to be more than adequate. Everything was clean tidy and the kitchen area was plenty big enough to prepare some food. Certainly bigger than the kitchen area in our camper!!

The big draw here is the location and the views you get across the bay. Fantastic. The pitches on this site are also a pretty decent size. We didn't feel like our neighbours were camped on top of us.

We would definitely recommend this site to anyone heading over to Banks Peninsula.

First, a rewarding ride on main road from Christchurch to Akaroa. Second, the ride back to Christchurch via tourist loop was even better. The approach to Top10 and location of tent site (T36) was the cream. Imagine all this as motorcycle rider.
The park laid out very efficiently given the ground space and hill slope. Facilities are easily accessed by tenters. Play ground next to kitchen, where mom/dad can supervise children. Good idea to limit upper TV room to adults (for safety, as well as quietness).
Good access to city/port via trekking trail. Require some effort, trail is fairly steep, may not be good in wet weather. Ideal location for 2-3 days.

We splashed out on harbour view sites at $47 as a treat for our last night in NZ and were very disappointed to be given pitch A, which was so narrow it was like being in a city car park, with no space for sitting out to admire said harbour view, as some of the other pitches had (eg 33). Raised our disappointment with the office and got a $5 refund. Better pitch would have been better but at least there was no quibble. Site a bit out of the town but lovely views although music drifts up from the town to send you to sleep! Facilities weren't very clean though in the women's toilets by the morning and a bit dated. Also the kitchen not big enough for demand, so we gave up queuing for hotplate in the end. I would not recommend this site.

We stayed here in january for four nights, and had a great time. The view from the balcony of the selfcontained units is really superb! The unit itself is ok, but very basic compared to other parks. We stayed here with two small kids and the bedroom with the bunks is to small to add a portacot, so our daughter had to sleep in the living room. Akaroa and Banks Peninsula are a must visit when in New Zealand, and this top ten park is a good place to stay.
