Price range: $10 - $31
Description: Laid-back dining, living room and garden serving simple but seasonal-with-attitude dishes, happily rooted in a style of cuisine seldomly experienced in New Zealand. Roasting, smoking, preserving & infusing are just typical ways you'll experience your food. Local ingredients, bragging with flavours.

This was an really different and wonderful dinning experience. The shared plates concept was most enjoyable. We had 2 cold and 2 hot dishes followed by a shared dessert. The quantities was enough for us and the tastes were amazing. The service was great. Our waitress was very lovely and we appreciated her advice when making our selections. It's a totally different experience than main stream restaurants. The building and gardens are lovely too.

Rona's had just reopened after a winter break and I wondered whether their new menu could match last seasons sensations. Our group was not disappointed. The food was simply a succession of taste sensations-every dish a delight of delicate but defined flavours. Staff pretty damn good as well-professional, friendly and attentive. If you want to try food that you won't cook at home this is the place.

We started with the Chicken liver parfait, beetroot jam, dukkah, fennel, toast for lunch. The parfait was beautiful, I was reluctant to mix the other components with it, but when I did it made it better, wonderful. The highlight of the meal.

The Lamb ribs, yoghurt, salsa verde was a good combination of tastes, a bit chewy and small however.

The Veal Sweetbreads, pickled cherries, peppercorn mayo, pickled mustard leaves combination tended to hide the flavour of the sweetbreads, rather than enhance them.

At a stretch the Ricotta gnocchi, preserved lemon, gai lan, olive, chilli almost was a filling dish, more substantial than the others. Lots of flavour going on.

Service was good. Toilet includes a washing machine and shower, so fully catered for there!

Our hosts recommended Rona's and I'm glad they did. The food was a very unusual mix of flavours and tastes we ordered 4 different plates of food. Each had a unique and interesting taste of its own including the cardamon in the cream! Don't miss it.
