Owner description: We started our Akaroa Harbour Nature Cruises back in 1985 and are the original cruise operators so we know the harbour pretty well. Along the way we've been named as the supreme tourism award winner and also hold the Enviro gold award from Qualmark to recognise our dedication to the environment.Your nature cruise will be on the 'Black Cat', a large modern and stable vessel allowing great views of all the scenery and wildlife including dolphins, seals and penguins. If by some chance you do not see dolphins then we will provide a ticket to come again another day. This happens on average 2% of the time across the whole year.We look forward to meeting you and giving you the best stories from the Akaroa Harbour.

Booked cruise by phone, no problems finding terminal and paying for cruise.Trip was good value for money. The scenery was stunning and the only way to see the shoreline, caves etc is from a boat. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful. The fish farms were interesting and was great to see the dolphins and seals. It was a great day and would recommend it.

An amazing trip where we got the opportunity to swim with hector s dolphins. Truly a once in a lifetime experience. We were very lucky with around 6 dolphins swimming around us. The company operated with the dolphin s welfare and conservation at the forefront of their minds. Knowledgeable guides and feel privileged to have had the opportunity to swim with these beautiful dolphins and contribute to their conservation. A must do tour if you 're in the area.

This tour was by far the highlight of our 14 days in Australia and New Zealand. The staff was friendly, funny and informative (Steve and Lynn). We donned wet suits and went out on the boat. Once we saw an interested pod we got in the water. But even before that we saw the dolphins swimming and jumping all the way out of the water.

Once in the water, the dolphins swam all around us. It was awesome. The best part is that these dolphins are in their natural habitat. They came by us out of their own curiosity rather than because they were penned up.

I commend Black Cat for running a tour that is safe and protective of the dolphins. They donate part of each tour fee to save these amazing and rare creatures. YAY FOR BLACK CAT. THIS IS A MUST DO IN AKAROA.

It was a great day! I found it well organized, the staff are very nice and helpfull! We were lucky to go in the water twice and see the dolphins close even if they didn't stop for long. The time on the boat was very nice, nice views and the crew then drove slowly back when the dolphins were following the boat so we took lots of great photos! Also great fun just try to get in the wetsuits!! It's the first time we bought the photo packet because the photos are really nice and there are extra!Nice experience! A great day in Akaroa!

The staff were lovely when I booked this activity over the phone, very helpful, answered my wetsuit anxiety questions. On arrival, even though they were really busy with a cruise ship everyone was helpful and efficient. The amount of people briefed in the room was disconcerting, but we were split into two groups which appeased any of those worries. The guys on our boat were great, stew and Steve were very informative and made great dolphin spotters! After enlisting the help from an off duty employee in a kayak and some dolphin whispering stones we were soon surrounded by the beautiful, endangered wild Hector dolphins (plus a couple of penguin and a white fronted tern fishing among our group.) After the being in the sea we gratefully received some hotchoc while learning more about these lovely little dolphin. It was a fab experience, and I can safely say the best Christmas eve I've had!
