After a few days work in Perth, I took a four day break in Freemantle. The Port Mill is perfect for a few days away. It is well-located - close to most of the attractions such as the week-end market, the museums and the beach. My room was clean and comfortable and I appreciated the snacks in the room and the breakfast across the street. Marie was a great host - she provided friendly service and excellent recommendations. Next time I visit Perth, I will bring my wife - she'll love the place.

When I came to Fremantle for a week to visit my daughter, I chose to stay at the Port Mill because its location is just perfect - hidden away in the cosy courtyard it was quiet and relaxing to have a coffee on the balcony of my room. Yet it is only few steps away from the main street ( "Cappucino Strip"), Fremantle Markets and Esplanade.
The markets are only open on the weekend and suddenly quiet Fremantle becomes a bubbly attraction for people of all ages with lots of entertainment, great food and a huge varety of bars and restaurants.
The "Whisper Wine Bar" just next door has excellent baguettes and wine of course, but is also only open on weekends.

I loved the breakfast at Fidel`s which is complimentary as well as a generously stocked fridge. In the morning I enjoyed fresh ground coffee provided in the reception and some cake, or musli with joghurt which the lady of the house Marie restocks daily as well as juice, milk, cereal and musli bars. Then I could enjoy the day and go for a hearty brunch to "Fidel" - their kitchen is open until 3 pm spoiling you to anything you chose from their breakfast menu ( amazing pancakes!)

Marie was looking after me every day of my stay, making sure I dont`t miss out on all the beautiful places to see around Freo. Thanks for the lovely memories Port Mill

Great room and atmosphere
As with oth reviews-Maria was lovely and friendly
But photos somewhat deceptive as it is right beside a wine bar that is very noisy and in addition the set up in a cul de sac means that every drunken youth shouting in the street echoes very loudly

Did not sleep all night
So won't be staying there again

I had a coupkle of meetings in the Perth region, but due to very high pricing of hotels in Perth I ended up at the much more reasonably priced Port Mill B&B. Next time I will not even look for a hotel in Perth, but try for this B&B straight away.
Service of Marie and the other staff is much more personal than a hotel. Staff is not around all the time, but can be reached by phone if necessary. Small fridge in room is stocked with some juice and yoghurt and every day cake or muffins are on the table. And this is included in the service, whereas a hotel would charge you for that.
A very complete breakfast with very good coffee is included and served in Fidel's Cafe across the street. Plenty of restaurants and bars around the corner, so what do you need a hotel bar/restaurant for? The beach can be reached by a 30-minute walk, but the free bus is also available.
Doing business can be very relaxing!

Room Tip: I stayed in the Leeuwin Room on 2nd floor with private balcony, so in the afternoon I could enjoy th...

I recently stayed here with my daughter and absolutely loved it. The hostess Marie was extremely helpful and a pleasure to meet. I chose Port Mill B&B based on its location (which did not disappoint) but will stay again based also on its overall atmosphere and facilities.

We were given vouchers for breakfast each day at Fidel's Cafe across the road. I thought this was a great idea. We were able to choose something different every day and the coffee was excellent.

Lastly, I loved that the wifi was provided for free and it worked!

Room Tip: Choose a room overlooking the beautiful courtyard.

Arriving on a weekend mid afternoon with a vehicle on a perfect day at Port Mill B&B would be unadvisable, as parking is a nightmare. People are everywhere, coming for the market, shopping, dining or just to be seen in this area. Note – have plenty of coins for the ticket machines. Parking is available easily down the road Monday to Friday but be aware of the parking restriction times. Cost is $6.50 a day starting at 8am til 1am.
Upon arrival at the B & B, (hot and tired) we found that we had a steep lot of steps to climb to get to the reception area, before having to climb another two flights of stairs with suitcases to get to our room. After recovering from frustration of car space, climbing steps with heavy luggage and finding a rather tiny room with an even smaller balcony we actually enjoyed our stay at Port Mill.
Our room was delightful, we had a welcome tray with cereal packets, a bowl of candy, a jar of sweet biscuits as well as a tray with a generous piece of carrot cake each for us. The fridge was stocked with yoghurt, orange juice and a large bottle of water. Throughout our room were beautiful little touches, such as heart shaped chocolates, a good selection of magazines, a guide of where to eat plus vouchers for a hot breakfast to be redeemed across the road at Fidel’s restaurant. (Excellent crepes and pancakes – lovely staff – definitely would recommend).
The comfort of the bed was excellent, including the pillows. Bathroom sufficient with good quality towels. Sitting on the balcony was nice but from the King Duyfken Suite there is no view. Would recommend booking the rooms overlooking the main courtyard area. Please note that this bed and breakfast property only has 4 rooms, 2 on each floor. The rest of the limestone buildings are privately owned and it was not unusual to see people sitting on a chair outside their place in the main courtyard; not problems, as all those we meet were very friendly.
A huge asset to this property is Marie, a charming receptionist that made you feel like a long lost friend. She gave us plenty of tips and advice regarding what to see and where to go; plus she kept re-stocking our room each day with either muffins or chocolate cake. Thank you Marie, not for only recommending a romantic dinner at the Red Herring but for being just you. (a suitable receptionist/cleaner/host).

Room Tip: front room - first floor (if you don't like climbing too many steps)

Port Mill B&B is a delightful place to stay in the very heart of Freo with the famous markets across the road, the historical sites within easy walking distance and the cafes and bars a few minutes walk away. Port Mill is in a very European courtyard behind a large gate and there are only a few rooms, spotlessly clean with high quality crisp sheets and Euopean quilts. The rooms are small but functional and they have little balconies. The decor is shabby chic, which I mean as a compliment. I love it.
Maria, the manager who does everything, gives a warm genuine welcome and nothing is too much trouble for her. She puts out fresh snacks each day and breakfast is taken at a small charismatic cafe across the road. Try the vegetarian breakfast there-delicious! There is also a good supply of Twinings tea in the room and an expresso machine downstairs.
The only drawback is the stairs-they are narrow and steep-so large suitcases and arthritic kneees would be a challenge!
Apart from that I recommend Port Mill highly and will definitely stay there again.
