The food at the ''Istanbul'' is very authentic. It has operated for many years and has become a mainstay of the Fremantle restaurant scene. All the wonderful dishes, flatbread and dips are made on the premises by a wonderful Turkish mama who could teach a chef a thing or two about genuine taste. The large portion prices are excellent and you never leave empty or forget the tastes and smells which linger in your mind for hours afterwards. As a Perth local I frequent this restaurant regularly and it is an ideal way for the tourist to make his day outing to ''Freo'' a memorable one. Situated in Essex Street at the southern end of the ''Cappuccino Strip'' it is slap bang among all the colour that is the Fremantle experience. If you just want a picnic in the park, grab a couple of dips and a fresh flatbread and wander down to the ''Esplanade''. I was recently in Istanbul and never found a restaurant there that can compete with its Fremantle namesake for the authentic taste that you associate with Turkish food. I haven't seen it but I believe that an authentic Turkish Belly Dancer performs at night. If that's your thing give them a ring before making a booking. BYO wine makes it a lot more affordable also. This is a 5 out of 5 just for authenticity, service and taste alone. Enjoy!
