The history of the Batavia right in front of you, read the books on the voyage of the Batavia and you might think it was a Hollywood storey until part of that I'll fated wreck looms out at you
Plenty of other artefacts and other exhibits too

I had been looking forward to visiting this museum after taking an interest in the Batavia. The story is well presented and there are plenty of recovered artifacts to look at, the most impressive of which must surely be the preserved side of the ship itself. The museum also details the other attempts to explore this area of Australia and I ended up spending some time here.

The shipwreck gallery is very tastefully put together and tells fascinating stories of a fascinating topic: Shipwrecks. It wasn't that long ago when these brave people risked lives to cross the oceans and the museum goes to great trouble to tell their story and explain the history of recovering shipwrecks. Very friendly and helpful staff. Christian was enthusiastic and kindly brought the interesting story of the Batavia to life. Very good.

I have waited for years to visit this gallery of the early maritime history of WA.
The artefacts on display cover early Dutch and English exploration and shipwrecks.
The archway and bricks recovered from the Dutch East India Company ship "Batavia" were to be used in Batavia (Jakarta) ,along with part of the original hull from the shipwreck are an amazing piece of history. Their are old charts which mapped out small areas of the Great Southern land and many other interesting items for anyone interested in the early history of WA.
Well worth a couple of hours to visit.
