Batavia Gallery is a key display featuring a section of the Dutch ship and some reconstructed cargo forming a stone arch. The 1629 wreck is one of intrigue, murder and what many would say is rough justice. The gallery leads to further maritime archeology including an unearthed skeleton labelled (facetiously) Australian's first settler.
The museum is established appropriately in a former shipping warehouse, one of Fremantle's many heritage buildings. Entry is by donation. A good selection of books are for sale.
