Well worth a visit to this beautiful building which is home to the remains of the Batavia and which has fascinating information about preserving and restoring shipwrecks.

I hadn't realized Australia was first "discovered" by the Dutch, long before the British colonized it. This museum tells that history and has some beautifully displayed relics, including a large remnant of an ancient Dutch sailing ship and its cargo. Well worth a visit in addition to the larger and more recent Maritime Museum.

This is a great way to spend an hour or so looking at the displays and thinking of the history of WA and the seafarers who didn't make it safely to port. Some fascinating stories. It's a gold coin donation but well worth it.

This museum is free to enter and payment is by donation
Spent more time here than envisaged and was thoroughly intrigued by the story of the Batavia which is the centre piece of the museum.
The number of shipwrecks of this coast is also mind boggling as are the stories behind many of the personal artifacts on show
Overall a delightful place to visit and thoroughly recommended
