This was a very interesting museum. We didn't take the tour of the submarine as hubby has a fear of heights and confined spaces, but there was still plenty to see. I really enjoyed seeing Australian II and learning the history the America's Cup win. My only suggestion is to give yourself a good couple of hours.

Thank Sandra R

This is a magnificent ultra modern concept built museum (think Sydney Opera House) perched at the entrance of Fremantle port. It faces the harbour entrance cantilevering out over the water and is a magnificent sight when approaching the harbour by boat, yacht or cruise vessel. The museum deals with modern maritime history such as migration, harbour vessels, general maritime history, famous challenges such as the ''America's Cup'' Challenge and the around the world sailing achievements of various famous Australians. There is an entrance charge approximately A$10 (varies for seniors, children etc) plus an extra cost if you wish to do the submarine tour which is located adjacent to the museum. The facilities such as clean toilets, cafe and souvenier shop are exceptionally well presented and the guides and general attendants offer cheerful and knowledgeable service. If you are a ''boatie'' you could spend hours at this attraction as the variety of display is exceptional and the exhibits have been professionally mounted to capture the event that it is portraying. The ''Australia II'' under full sail is a great example. If you are a local check out the memorial out the front to the ''10 Pound'' migrants. You will be amazed at the family names you recognise. This Museum is a great tribute to the modern maritime history of Western Australia and one of the great Maritime Museums of its type that I have visited in many other cities around the world. A great extra if you have time when visiting Fremantle. Go on a Friday, weekendor public holiday and you can visit the E Shed Markets which are also great and only 150 metres from the Museum.

It had been a few years since my last visit to the WA Maritime Museum in Freo and the place continues to be an iconic venue. The exhibits are beautifully displayed and there is so much to see you'd need many trips to get through them all. The recovered Batavia is wreck is spectacular and the story of its journey, sinking and discovery is amazing.
A great place to spend some quality time and at the same time increasing your knowledge of WA history.

As West Australia has such a short history compared with other
States in other countries - this has been very well put together to
give an idea of how and when WA was discovered and the sort of
vessels used in those times. Also the equipment, basic in most
cases, which was used for all sorts of jobs. Well done - worth
the time and very informative tour.

A fabulous building to showcase WA history. There is a great place to feel and touch a wide variety of maritime artifacts.
