Had a lovely dinner with Mum and Dad and my husband on Wednesday last week. Dad asked for a table with a good view of the ocean for us as we are from Alice Springs. The view was great, the service was very good and we enjoyed our meals. I would go there again on a regular basis if I lived in Perth.

Visited Salt again on Friday for lunch and have decided I don't need to go there again for awhile!

Salt is impressive in so many ways, it's location to the beach, right on it.. two separate dining areas - one to suit finer dining, and the casual 'walk off the beach in your sarong' area along with the 'bring your kids, we have a playground and shade'...so why grizzle... well I have finally decided that for what you get, the prices are just too exorbitant. Our selection covered the sweet potato chips, the steak burger, the Asian salad with squid, spring rolls and a pizza. The food was generally OK except the pizza which at $26 was barely there, the alcohol was a bit up there also, but it was hard to justify the pricing overall.

The outside areas are all getting a little shabby also which is to be expected, but has reached the point of needing to be repaired/replaced rather than fitting in with the vibe and the biggest turnoff, was that the laminated menus were absolutely grotty and it would not have taken much to include a bit of a wipe down in the morning prep.

We will be trying some of the many other places around our great town for awhile.

A really fine meal. Superb scallops and prawns, delicious asparagus, fine Asian salad. This is a relaxed kind of place in the sand dunes with the ocean gently lapping the beach a few metres away. We rapidly acclimatised seated next to an open window on a warm Perth evening and had a fabulous easy going couple of hours. A rather unique kind of place.

Salt on the Beach has a wonderful location, right next to the beach with views over the ocean offering some spectacular sunsets. We sat on the outdoor seating next to the children’s playground where we could keep an eye on my grandson. Luckily, my son had been here before and he knew that you have to go to the bar to order food, which he did, although it took him almost 15 minutes queuing. Three fish and chips – couldn’t be simpler. Admittedly there were quite a few people there but when our meals hadn’t arrived after about 30 minutes, my son went to the bar to find out what was happening – you have to go to the bar, it is almost impossible to get the attention of any staff who happen to be around. It seems there was no record of our order and so we ordered again – three fish and chips. They arrived after another half hour wait, but only two of them. The third one arrived 15 minutes later. The pity is that they were good fish and chips with crispy golden batter on tasty mackerel. As someone who lives in England, AUD26 for fish and chips at a beach bar and AUD9 for a bottle of Corona is outrageous, but those are Western Australia prices.

We wanted a child friendly venue to watch the sun go down over the water. Salt did that for us. The kids played happily in the playground, there was a face painter in attendance that they both gave two thumbs up, the drinks were good, the food was fine and we had a great adult chat with friends who live nearby whilst watching the sun go down.
