The picture shows the Brockman monument and the inscriptions illustrate how attitudes towards indigenous Australians have changed. The original monument describing the 19th century Brockman expedition that the local people attacked describe them as "treacherous blacks" and the whites as heroic explorers. The other side of the monument has a Nyoongar correction (the local people's version). The Esplanade also has a monument to the Portuguese community...near here are the fish restaurants started by the early Italian (Cicirello) and Greek (Kailis) families. Tourist heaven...and a short walk to Freo's cappuccino strip and markets....also lots of events happen here..many free.

Whilst in Perth we decided to take the train to Fremantle (4AD each way). The train trip was really good as you get to see lots of different scenery. When we got to fremantle we found there were several festival type activities going on (it was St. Patrick's day). There was aparade by a really good drum band and also an asian food and music festival just along from the espianade. Obviously they don't have this much entertainment usually but we had a great time just wondering around. The bars were cramed full but we managed to squeeze in one on the water front and had a good lunch. This was a relatively cheap day out and very relaxing.

Central location in Fremantle, walking distance to just about everything from here. Great to sit and watch the world go by.

This is the place where many protests are held. It is important for Perth to have large grassy areas for people to congregate and to enjoy nature. Especially since they are going to build Elizabeth Quay and get rid of these natural areas.
Many people enjoy this area with their families and pets.

Really nice place just to relax and enjoy being outside. A very popular place because it connects different areas of Fremantle together.
