“Amazing and definately worth the money”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

We took the ferry express to Rottnest Island and it was awesome! We weren't really sure because it was quite a bit of money and almost didn't do it. However i am soooo glad we did and would definately go back! Online i found a deal when you pre book the ferry and bikes. We went with 3 of us girls and biked around. Lots of snorkelling, delish food and just sites to see. We didn't stay overnight but wished we had looked into it because we could have done more biking and seeing. The only thing is the parking where you get on at the ferry. I believe you have to pay and it was hard to find parking near by..make sure you have lots of time to find parking because we ended up getting a parking ticket.

“Great day trip”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2013

We took the ferry from Perth and spent the day in Rotto. It was easy to book through the Internet. Lovely cruise on Swan river. Only negative point is that there were 2 stops on the way to the island and hence took much longer than the way back (2:15h vs 1:45). Good bikes from the ferry company. Rotto is definitively worth a trip, take the time to drive around the island and go for a swim.

“Rottnest express ferry service”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 28, 2013

The staff seem to have a very cavalier attitude towards people's luggage, they deliver in the rain without putting there covers over the cage, luggage soaked. Loose items, anyone can take any luggage or for that matter put anything there! While sitting on the dock. Gee people have things that cost money to replace but they don't care.

“Great Day Out”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2013

If you enjoy the beach, snorkelling or a scenic bike ride, this trip is really worthwhile. I did it as a day trip from Perth but you can also stay on the island.

The ferry (Rottnest Express) is over priced for what it is (Aus$94 rtn), but you can get better deals on the website if you book in advance. There was some commentary enroute to Fremantle but it was very difficult to hear what they were saying if you were sat outside. From Fremantle to Rottnest (and back) the ferry got really full, which meant quite a few people had to stand. However, the staff were friendly and helpful.

You can order snorkel gear and bikes from the ferry company. The bikes are a bit tired but they get the job done. If you are over 6 foot, I would recommend taking your own bike as theirs are quite small.

The island itself is great. The beaches are beautiful and there are enough to choose from to prevent it getting too crowded. I found the snorkelling best at Salmon Bay. If you go for the day, you have about 5 hours on the island. This was enough to cycle around the island (without going down the western headland), stop for a swim at 3 different beaches and have a quick bite to eat in Thomson Bay before catching the ferry back.

Make sure you buy all the food and water you need in Thomson Bay before setting out; you won't be able to buy it anywhere else on the island.

“Too beautiful (and expensive) for just a day trip”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2013

Rottnest Island is a very nice place to visit, but the boat ride from Perth took forever - better hop on in Fremantle! And if you have to return on the same day, it's very expensive for just half a day on the island. You should stay overnight to make the most of your visit.
Bike routes are not well signed. And working brakes are apparently not included in the $30 rental fee. Overall rather poor value for money, especially if just for a day trip.
