“Perfect location - great restaurant”
Reviewed September 25, 2009

We stayed here after reading many reviews on Trip Advisor. The hotel is in the center of Lauterbrunnen and our room had a wonderful view of the falls. We were on the 3rd floor (no lift, so keep in mind if stairs are an issue). Small balcony to enjoy the view. the bathroom is clean, but dated, felt more like a cruise ship bathroom. Overall clean and sufficient. we didn't come to stay in our room. The breakfast was disappointing. A weak choice of cheese, on meat (some type of cheap bologna) bread, croissants, cereals, but no sweet rolls or pastries. No eggs. Very basic. The restaurant on the other hand was fantastic. Food was fresh, innovative and tasty. Fondue was fantastic and the fresh venison really yummy. ice cream, well swiss ice cream is just the best.
the owner is happy to give reocmmendations of things to do and how to get there. Overall a good value for a great location.

Arriving on the 9th September with just 4 of us, we were shown the upmost respect by Mark and Ursula, and also Jacqui.
Fantstic meals yet again, in the evenings.
Saturday 12th Saw the arrival of the rest of our group of 22, everyone without exception thought what a wonderful place the Oberland was, with special mention to the evening meals.
As we were a charity walking group from the UK, on the day of our Charity walk to the summit of the Schilthorn, Ursula was up at around 5am to help prepare our very early breakfast at 5.30am, also supplying everybody with packed lunches for the walk.
This goes way past the attention to detail normally handed out by hotel proprietors.
I would certainly recommend a stay at the Oberland if you are In lauterbrunnen, or if not stopping at the Oberland, at least try their wonderful food.

We paid 160 SFr. for room 35, a corner room with a wonderful balcony.
This hotel is on the main street, like most other hotels and stores. It is a short walk from the grocery store, internet, and laundromat. I added several photos of the room to the photo gallery, in addition to the ones already there.

The hotel had a cozy lobby area, and an attached restaurant. We made reservations and ate at the restaurant both nights. The food was excellent. We had cappucinos with dinner and they were the best (most American in terms of size and quality) we had in the entire country.

The included breakfast buffet was outstanding, and included multiple cheeses, croissants and rolls, fresh loaves of bread, yogurt, fresh fruit, muesli, corn flakes, coffee, tea, orange juice, and milk.

The room had a small television and work desk, and the balcony had a table and chairs.

Our room was on the northeast corner (in the direction of the train station) and with our windows open, we could smell food cooking down in the restaurant, so keep that in mind.

The couple who run (own) the hotel were both pleasant and helpful. At the base of the stairs is a bulletin board with important information about closed trails, community events, etc. which we appreciated.

As mentioned, there is no elevator. Also, the ceiling is a bit low in places... it would be easy to bump one's head if you were 6'5" (197cm), like I am. Of course, this should not prevent you from staying here.

Overall, we were very satisfied and wouldn't consider another hotel in town.

I am not sure about the quality of food which has been so raved about, since we just had a meal of pizza and pasta, but surely the service left a very bitter taste in our mouth.

We just came to Lauterbrunnen after our long and tiring journey from Venice and wanted to eat at a good place after we checked into our hotel (Hotel Staubbach). After reading good reviews about the restaurant, we decided(unfortunately) on Hotel Oberland. We were concerned about getting a table, as the reviews mentioned the restaurant would be very crowded, but when we went, there were not many except for a couple of people and some flies.

After deciding on our dinner, one very rude guy came and place the cutlery with a loud clang!!! That was just the beginning!!!! Since we just wanted to eat something and we do not drink wine, etc, we only ordered our meal. We were asked the question "What about drinks?". When we replied "just water!!", we were given a disgusted look, as though we are commiting a sin by not drinking at their precious restaurant... So, be it. We decided to wait for our order. We also saw that the restaurant serves some traditional swiss food. So, we wanted to know more about it. My hubby just called out to the waiter(as he was the only one not doing anything at that time.. we could only see him flirting with the girls passing by) and requested for more information about the food. He acted as though we had disturbed him from a very important job and actually started shouting at us saying "Can't you read it was in the menu!!" and he actually brought the menu and tossed it on the table. It felt really humiliating, as if we had asked for something forbidden. Finally after a wait, our food arrived, which was so-so, and we gulped it down so as to not encounter that pathetic person again. We were so upset, that we even called the manager and complained to her about this person's behavior.

We have travelled all over the world and this was the first time we encountered something like this in a foreign land.

This was supposed to be the beginning of our honeymoon trip, and the person just about succeded in spoiling it for us. Hope this review helps folks who are planning to go to the restaurant.. and if you do go.. it would be at your own risk of being treated disrespectfully!!!

Incredibly charming hotel, breathtaking little town and surroundings. No elevator (we had heavy luggage and a member of our family with knee replacement/difficulty walking). The woman (owner, I think) who checked us in was the sweetest lady... so helpful, kind and had great recommendations etc. Restaurant food was very good. Would absolutely love to come back!!!

I stayed at the Stubbach Hotel but ate at the Oberland's restaurant on two nights. I wish I had eaten there for the other three nights I was in town. The hype is true - great food, reasonable prices and quick service.
I can recommend the cream of tomato soup (about CHF 7.50) which is the best I've ever tasted. The surloin stake with vegetables and potato croquetes (CHF 32.00) is great too. The margarita (CHF 15.00) and mushroom pizzas (CHF 16.50) are both great and not too oily.
The man (Australian or Kiwi) who seems to be the co-owner is a great bloke, friendly and approachable.
My only grumble is that they charge CHF 3.00 for a jug of tap water. I've never been charged for tap water anywhere before. But it is free if you buy any drink.
Tips - Even if you plan to eat by yourself reserve a place as you walk back into town after a hard days sightseeing. It's popular and if you just turn up you many have to wait to be seated.
Also the kitchen shuts at 9pm and won't take food orders from new customers.

Having recently spent five nights at the Oberland, we can agree with all the praise this place is getting. The Oberland is by no means luxurious, but that is hardly the point. The hotel offers comfortable, well kept and clean lodging and has a very good restaurant.

The hotel is located just in the middle Lauterbrunnen. The few eating and shopping options which exists are located within a few hundred meters up or down the road. The Jungfraubahn station is just a couple of minutes walk.

Our room on the fourth (top) floor was a spacious corner room which had a balcony with great view on the valley and the waterfall. Furniture and fittings are basic but fully adequate. We paid CHF170 per night, incl. breakfast, which is probably in the high range of what is on offer in Lauterbrunnen.

Having scouted the nearby eating options, we wound up eating at the hotel´s restaurant every evening. The traditional food was well prepared, came in generous portions, was fair priced and was served by great staff. The restaurant was mostly full every night and for parties of more than two, it is probably wise to make a reservation.

The hotel has parking spaces just across the street and we had no problem finding a space.

The breakfast is a basic buffet with a limited range of choices. As with most hotel breakfasts, we missed decent whole grain bread.

We join a long line of reviewers in recommending the Oberland.
