We used the Hotel Oberland as a base from which to explore the Alpine attractions in the Lauterbrunnen area. The hotel is just a few hundred yards from the BLM service to Murren and the Shilthorn, the Lauterbrunnen banhof (railway station), and the Staubbach waterfall. The more famous Trummelbach Falls are just a short car ride or long walk away (2 miles).

The hotel is typical of rustic tourist hotels in rural areas: cheerful and comfortable, but with cheap furniture, barely functioning internet, and overall under-investment in infrastructure. Of course, the reason to come here is the location, not the hotel. There were some minor signs of mold in the bathroom, and in general the hotel needs a facelift. On the other hand our room was very large, had a balcony, and had a view of a gorgeous waterfall -- who could ask for more?

Free breakfast included boiled eggs, fruit, cereal, and incredible Swiss brown bread.

Overall, we had a very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Staubbach!

The Hotel Oberland is conveniently situated in the main street of Lauterbrunnen, a short walk from the station. It is a very old building which has been updated but retains its charm. The hotel is run by a Swiss wife and Australian husband, and all staff spoke excellent English, which makes it a delight for those of us whose German is far from perfect. The welcome is friendly and genuine and all staff could not have been more pleasant or helpful.
Our room was at the rear of the hotel with a great view of the falls and the alps. It had a small balcony where we had a drink in the evening before dinner. The room is wood-paneled in that very Swiss manner, so don't go there expecting modern décor.
Breakfast was very good and the hotel runs an excellent restaurant with very good food and excellent service. (Try the salad with bacon and mushrooms!).
We really enjoyed our stay and felt very much at home. Highly recommended

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the waterfall.

We (a middle aged couple with elderly parents) stayed at the Hotel Oberland in early July. The setting is beautiful and the rooms are spacious. Breakfasts were excellent (typical european fare, fresh fruit, etc.). Most of all, the front desk staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

Our room was in their crystal annex with stained upholstery and see through curtains with street lights that kept the room brightly lit at night.
We checked in around 9 PM and told the reception we needed to leave around 7 AM for hiking. We were told that we would have to pay at night and were welcome to leave our car in their parking lot during the day. We had dinner in their restaurant, which was an awful value at approximately 25 USD per person. After dinner when we went to pay the receptionist, she was gone. Restaurant employee did not know how to use credit card machine and could not process our payment. She told us it will be fine for us to pay the receptionist when we return from our hike the next day. They were considerate in packing our breakfast for our outing. But...

In the confirmation the hotel emailed to us before we arrived, the price was in Swiss francs. The terms clearly stated that the bill was to be charged in Swiss francs. But when we paid the bill at reception, the charges were in US dollars! This meant that we were being assessed a terrible exchange rate with an added bank conversion charge of 3%! We asked reception to change the charge to Swiss francs (as had been promised.) But she refused and stated—falsely—that paying our bill in francs would incur other extra charges! When we persisted, she made it seem as if we were terrible guests not worthy of the effort to change the charge. She mentioned that we had left our car in their parking lot while exploring the region during the day. Yet the very same woman had assured us the night before that we could leave our car in the lot all day with no problem! We reminded her of this, but she flatly declared that she was not going to change our bill! A clear breach of contract that exhibits greed and unfriendliness. This, coupled with the poor value for the room and restaurant, prevents us from recommending this hotel to anyone.

The Hotel Oberland is a nice old hotel. The hotel staff were always ready to help. But the building itself was rather quirky. The lack of an elevator wasn't a problem except for hauling our luggage in and out. But I had to constantly duck to avoid hitting my head while walking the stairs. The tub sat up so high that no one over about 5'6" could stand up when taking a shower. We had a room with a small balcony and a view of Staubbach falls; it wasn't that large, but it had a tiny sitting area with what appeared to be a miniscule futon (we never tried opening it. But really, when you're surrounded by this scenery you're not going to be spending much time in the room. I'd probably rate this hotel a bit higher were I shorter, but at 6'1" I found myself bumping my head regularly.

Room Tip: Room 38 had a small balcony with a view of the falls.

We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed it. We had a balcony room and it was great view. Its near to the train station and walkable to many a scenic places. There is a bus stop too nearby. Breakfast was included in the room charges and was alright. The one point reduction is because the balcony looked messy. But 4 stars for the rooms and the top-class service.Would definitely stay again.
Walk towards your right when u come out of the hotel and you would come across many waterfalls and scenic views.

Our stay at Hotel Oberland was great! The location was perfect, right in the heart of the Lauterbrunnen Valley. Our room faced the street, was on the top floor with a gorgeous view, and had a balcony with a small table and chairs! The room amenities are typical European, smaller, with an even smaller bathroom, but the beds are comfy and cozy. However, if you are spending a lot of time in your room here, you are missing out on all the area has to offer! We had breakfast and one dinner at the hotel and weren't disappointed. The hotel has a really nice lodge feel to it, with a sitting room where you can have tea or coffee as you access the internet. Although the sitting room was nice, I prefer to have internet in my room, which did not work (internet is overall spotty and overloaded). But again, the sights are more interesting than checking email here! English speakers don't worry: the staff all speak English (one of the owners is from Australia). The location of Hotel Oberland is great. For incidentals, snacks and such, there is a small grocery store just down the street. Restaurants are abundant and reasonably priced in the area. The train station is short walk away where you can take a cog train up to Wengen and on to Jungfraujoch if the weather is clear. The gondola station is also close by and worth it! Overall, a great comfortable stay!
