We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at the Oberland. The outstanding service from the owners, Mark and Ursula, in particular stands out. They were attentive and very helpful in offering advice to help make our visit to the Lauterbrunnen Valley more enjoyable (not to mention being ever-present!). I especially appreciated their generosity in offering me a free room upgrade in response to my having a couple of minor problems with my room. Now, this is a very old hotel, so you shouldn't expect spacious, modern rooms, but this is all part of the charm.

We had a couple of very good meals in the hotel's restaurant and enjoyed having a drink on the pleasant terrace out front. Free parking is available in an open lot across the street. One area for improvement I'd suggest is the wi-fi, which was not usable in my top-floor room (however, the signal is good in the reception room on the first level up, and there is also a computer there for guest use).

I recommend specifying a room with a balcony on the front of the hotel, to enjoy the views up and down the valley. Well worth the small additional cost!

The Lauterbrunnen Valley is spectacularly beautiful place and Lauterbrunnen provides a convenient base from which to see all the sights, with easy access by bus, rail, trail, or gondola. We especially enjoyed an easy one-hour walk from Lauterbrunnen to the Trummelbach Falls, a good way to spend a cloudy day.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra for a room with a balcony!

Can't ask for better views when you can see the Jungfrau region right infront of you every morning you wake up. Every hotel in this region is probably rustic. This hotel is rustic, clean, traditionally Swiss and blends with the surrounding views. The staff were thoughtful and ready to give information on the weather today, places to go with the amount of time you have left and how to go about doing it. We went to the Top of Europe journey from here. The weather was perfect when we were there so that adds to the great time we had. If you like the moutains, stay here or in Wengen/Murren instead of Interlaken. Will definitely stay here again when I'm back.

I recently did my first visit to Lauterbrunnen and the Jungfraujoch after living in Switzerland for more than 10 years now. I should have done this before, the scenery in both places is spectacular and IMO one of Switzerland's "must sees". Note that the Jungfrauhoch is quite expensive and had I just made the train trip from Lauterbrunnen to Grindelwald, I'd have not missed a lot. YMMV.
Anyway, we stayed in Hotel Oberwald in Lauterbrunnen for one night. The owners were quite friendly and the food was good - but the Hotel suffers from the same disease so many Swiss hotels suffer: An investment backlog. Our room was small, then en-suite bathroom was nice but did not help space-wise. Furnishing was rather stuffy and it seemed that fitting the bathrooms was the last investment made for a long time (several decades, I'd guess). The price is too high for what the hotel offers, it is barely acceptable if you take the surroundings into the calculation.
I realize that some concessions are necessary for an old, presumably listed, house. But still, the breakfast room could be made a lot nicer and the breakfast a bit more appetizing.

Highly recommended - Ideal location as a base for touring/walking in the Bernese Oberland. Warm welcome awaits, rooms are clean and simple, facilities are functional, wireless internet is the only concession to the 21st century, easy parking if travelling by car. Good food available on the terrace/dining room and booking essential as popular eating venue. Tepid showers from tour parties running off the hot water on early starts and creaky floors from upstairs guests are minor irritations compared to the overriding benefits of this hotel. Relatively good value (Nothing in Switzerland comes cheap as you have to pay for such stunning scenery but the locals do smile when they relieve you of your cash).

Top tip – If time is limited and wish to see the sights, buy the 3-day regional rail pass (available from reception) – SF 225 (approx £150) covers unlimited travel to Wengen, Kleine Scheidegg, Murren, Grindelwald/First, Schynige Platte and Interlaken Ost plus one trip to Jungfraujoch, which alone costs SF169 – A car is redundant as Lauterbrunnen station is a stone’s throw away from the hotel.

This hotel was very rustic. We stayed here because Rick Steves recommended it. It was a charming hotel. The owner was very nice and very helpful. The hotel itself was right near the train to the top of the glacier which was very convenient. We were in a little shock by the rustic-ness after staying at a really fancy hotel prior to this. However, I can't compare apples to oranges and even though it was rustic, it was a nice, friendly hotel. If you don't mind the bare necessities with no frills, this should be fine. The friendliness of the staff made it worth while.

Rick Steves recommended staying in Lauterbrunnen versus Interlaken, but Interlaken was a very cute town with a lot more going on than Lauterbrunnen so I would recommend choosing Interlaken over Lauterbrunnen. We also really enjoyed the train ride so staying in Interlaken would have meant more time on the train.

We stayed here during August 2012. Our room had a balcony overlooking the town of Lauterbrunnen and the mountains beyond. The room was ample, clean, straightforward. The hotel serves a very good breakfast including fresh local fruit, eggs, and all the usual breads, cheeses, meats, yogurt, cereal, etc. This was the first night of our multi-day hiking trip to the Alps and the extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff of the Hotel Oberland gave us excellent advice on hiking, best places to visit, places frequented by locals (as opposed to tourists) and gems off the beaten path. She could not have been nicer or more helpful. We also had supper in the hotel restaurant, which was very good, and enjoyed an ice cream on the patio after a long hike -- which was fantastic. The hotel is a short walk from the train station, a walk we managed easily with our luggage. Wifi is included in room charge.

Room Tip: We enjoyed a "view room" with majestic mountain vistas.

Best hotel in the Valley. This is now my 4th time staying here and honestly I will never stay anywhere else in Lauterbrunnen again. If the hotel is Full I won't go until there is space available. Awesome food. Very Very friendly staff and management. Clean rooms. Close to everything. Walking distance to trains and cable car.
