We spent 5 nights at the hotel and had a lovely time. The hotel is well situated for hiking and atractions in the area. We stayed half board (breakfast and evening meal) which included a fixed 5 course dinner which we found varied, tastey and satisfying. The only (quite serious) problem we had was that despite specificlly booking a superior room 6 months in advance and confirming by telephone just before we left for Switzerland, our first night was spent in what I could only describe as a 'Very Standard Self Catering apartment' in a seperate building opposite the hotel. That said, we were moved to a lovely (Superior) room with balcony in the main hotel once I raised the issue. Shame we didn't get what we booked straight away really as if it wasn't for this I would have reviewed the hotel as excellent.

Room Tip: Make sure you confirm that you have a room (Superior or otherwise) in the main hotel

Hotel Silberhorn suited my needs perfectly again. The location, the accommodations, and the staff all are wonderful. It's not a 5 start hotel, but it is a great place for staying in the area. This was my second visit to it and I'll book it again when I go back.

Room Tip: Room 16 is on the side of the building facing the train station and overlooks the valley. Just absol...

We loved the Hotel Silberhorn in Lauterbrunnen. It's conveniently located right near the train station, though it is a short walk up a steep hill. No matter: once you get off the train in Lauterbrunnen, you will be energized by the breathtaking beauty. We checked into the hotel and the staff was absolutely delightful and kind. English was spoken, which made things easier. They could not have been any nicer. Our room was on the 4th floor and there is no lift, but the gracious reception woman took my heavy bag and lifted it up four flights of stairs as if it was nothing. She was amazing. The room is spacious and comfortable with everything we needed. We opened up the doors to the balcony and could not believe it when we were staring at the magnificant waterfalls in front of us. At night they are illuminated until a certain hour. To wake up to that view is amazing. The food in the restaurant was good and hearty, and as we were eating, a rainbow appeared across the road. Free breakfast is included, and it was delicious. Lauterbrunnen is truly paradise, and a stay at the Hotel Silberhorn will make your paradise complete. We will definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony or view. There is no lift at the hotel so you might want a lower floor...

We loved the Silberhorn, despite the climb up the hill with four suitcases after three changes on the SBB! There is no elevator, but the superior double was a welcome retreat after days of hiking and exploring the Lauterbrunnen valley! The bathroom was large and clean, and the balcony extended from the living space to the bedroom.
We didn't do half board, but we ate in the restaurant two nights. Definitely make reservations to be seated in the better part of the restaurant! The food was very good both nights.
The best part of the hotel is the location. A quick glance at the map makes it seem on the edge of town, but for those using Lauterbrunnen as a base, it is the closest to the rail and tram stations to Wengen and the Grutschlap.

I feel I must say that how you feel about this hotel must depend on which room you are put in because other reviwers couldn't possibly have been in room 27. The room was the most basic of rooms, the decoration was very old and tired with water stained wallpaper, chipped paint and the most depressing and overbearing pine wood panelling which had so many knots in it that it felt as if a hundred eyes were looking you! The two single beds were basic with what seems to be very cheap matresses, the sheets were so thin you could see through them and the duvet cover and pillow case were not even ironed and so were very rough. The bed my husband slept on was so creaky that every time he moved it made such a loud noise that I woke up so we took to putting the matress on the floor for the rest of the stay. The bathroom was a fright, to start with it had no window or extractor fan and was very small with no surface to put anything although there was a cupboard above the sink. The bath had a shower over it but as much water spurted out of the shower hose as came out of the shower head so you couldn't just wash your hair over the bath you had to have a full shower. The most awful thing about the bathroom was the decor, there was 'cushion floor' type vinyl in a tile pattern on the floor, on all the walls and on the side of the bath. Mostly it was orange but on one wall it was moss green! When you ran the water it looked a dirty brown colour but I think it was the refection of the orange walls however it did put me off having a bath in it and my showers were the quickest in history! The towels were old, thin and frayed and the toiletries supplied were one small soap and two sachets of shampoo. Needless to say there were no tea/coffee making facilities, mini bar, iron, air con or any other niceties to make a hotel stay pleasant. Its only saving grace was that there was a small scruffy balcony which had an amazing view of the mountains and waterfall. We sat out there in the plastic chairs and with the table with the stained tablecloth and were able to forget the room for a while. We had already been told that the hotel was full so we knew it wasn't worth asking to move, I think I must have booked the last room and therefore got the dregs. We were concerned that the balcony doors weren't very sucure so we closed the old wooden shutters for extra sucurity as we left lap top etc in the room but when we returned the maids had opened the shutters. The breakfasts were also basic with very little choice, everything was self service including getting tea or coffee from a machine yourself. We didn't opt for half board so I can't comment on the other food. Other guests had written nice things in the guest book so I'm guessing that other rooms must be nice so if you do stay here ask for a newer room. The staff were not unpleasant but I wouldn't go as far as to say friendly. Its worth mentioning that there was no lift and the hotel is on quite a steep hill. However the hotel was very clean, I can not fault that side of it at all. If you really don't care about comforts but just want a basic room then go for it but I certainly won't be going back.

Room Tip: Ask for a newer room

There is nothing negative about this place. The hotel is beautiful, the owners are very nice and the location is fantastic. You can see the train station, staubach falls from the balcony of your room. The views from the room are very beautiful. Its a very quite location. Murren, Jungfrau, Interlaken are very easily accessible from here. The breakfast is yum but very limited options for vegetarians. If you want to avoid the crowds and noise of Interlaken, then Lauterbrunnen is a perfect base for your holiday.
