We hiked in and around Lauterbrunnen valley and have never seen such beautiful scenery. We took the tram up and walked to Stechelberg from Murren. Took the bus through the valley to the Trummenburg falls then walked back through the valley to Lauterbrunnen. The water and air is so clean and the day was remarkable.

This is one of our favorite travel experiences--walked the valley from Stechelberg back to Lauterbrunnen on both our first and last days in the area this year, and have done it at least once the 4 previous years. Never gets old. The path is generally level and passes under towering mountains and waterfalls. Would be an easy hike to do with family (either younger kids, or older family members). It's also easy to do half of the hike and catch the bus for the other half (either from the start at either end or at its mid-point, Trummelbach Falls (look for the signs--it's a few meters over from the path to the main road). Don't miss this--and it's best done as part of a loop, taking the lift up from Lauterbrunnen to Grutschalp, train from there to Mürren, either hike or take the lift to Gimmelwald, and then the lift down to Stechelberg. Can either be done in a couple of hours or take up the better part of your day, depending on how long you tarry in Mürren, Gimmelwald, or Trummelbach.

Walked from Stechelberg back to Lauterbrunnen after taking a round trip gondola, rail, walking, gondola trip above the valley floor. Must have been a half dozen or more waterfalls on our walk dropping from the top of the sheer walls of the hanging valley. This place is close to paradise for mountain scenery and I am not easily impressed since we spend our summers near Glacier National Park in Montana which is itself stunningly beautiful ... from the magical hanging valleys, the high alps at one end, the waterfalls, the Swiss houses, and the fields full of cows with their cowbells clanging. Not to be missed!

The locals suggested this hike would take us behind the falls. Nope, and it's a rough uphill, but scenic, hike.
