It's all true; this is the most quaint and charming hotel in Lauterbrunnen. We stayed 4 nights in room #4, which is newly refurbished with a beautifully appointed room and bathroom. This shower was one of the best we've ever had, the balcony was enormous and everything was extremely clean. The staff is exceptional. They check the peaks for visibility, recommend trails and are friendly and personable. The breakfast is very good and plentiful. Certainly an excellent value for a 2 star hotel. It is true about the Horner Hotel bar, however. The staff informed us that they are supposed to close the patio at 10pm and the police are cracking down on this. However, there is no law in Switzerland against wandering around the streets drunk. In speaking with some guests staying further down the street they complained of drunks making noise in front of their hotel as well. Launterbrunnen has a strong sense of community and I expect that they will resolve this situation. In the meantime, I would highly recommend this hotel but request a room away from the bar. By the way, the church bells were not a problem for us.

This was an excellent choice for access to hiking trails and gondola rides to the Schilthorn and Jungfraujoch as well as 10 minutes from the train station. The breakfast was excellent: fresh local fruit, eggs, breads, meat, cheese, cereals, yogurt and a special muesli/yogurt dish that was fantastic. There is a refrigerator for guests to use, a lounge with TV and newspaper, and coffee and tea available in another lounge all day long. The staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful. Our corner room was quite large with big windows affording great views. Sitting on the balcony, gazing at the 900 ft. waterfall, cows just arriving down from the alps parading by with bells and flower headdresses (really!) ---that was the life!

Staff very warm, friendly and helpful. View down the valley with balcony was priceless.
Looked forward to sleeping with the louvered doors open to get fresh air. However, the bells on the church across the street rang hourly all night until 6:00 AM when they changed to every fifteen minutes.
The pub in the same direction was very noisy....so the image of open air sleeping was substantially compromised for a light sleeper.
I suggest you select a room facing town for sleeping and enjoy the valley view at breakfast....through the beautiful picture windows of the breakfast room.
Hotel rooms are clean, very small and basic with few amenities, no night stands, TV, radio, mini fridge, phone, etc. Moved bed out from wall every night ....in front of door to be able get into and out of other side.
Enjoyed stay, good value, but select room carefully to avoid the noise...if you have any trouble sleeping.

We stayed at the Hotel Staubbach for three nights in late August. We choose the waterfall view. The room was small as promised. The view was fantastic. We spent little time inside the room, and most of the daylight time after our hikes out on the balcony. The room had a double bed, one chair, and a private bathroom. Our breakfast served in the day room was always filling. The employees were helpful and always friendly. Good free parking, close walk to the train station.
Lauterbrunnen is the jumpoff town for taking the train up to great hiking trails. Three days is hardly enough for this beautiful area.

It was my second visit in this hotel and it certainly not my last.
Beside the beautiful view (Lauterbrunen is the most beautiful place in Switzerland), the hotel is so comfortable, the stuff is friendly, it was like visit my family's house.
We got a very big room (we are couple + 3 children) with a breathtaking view.
I love this place.

Hotel Staubbach as previously reviewed has its charms. It has an excellent continental breakfast, the friendliest and most helpful staff of any service staff we found in Switzerland. Its south views of Staubach falls are unparallel by other Lauterbrunnen hotels. The rooms are simple but adequate and our bathroom was roomy. The shower had fantastic pressure and the entire room was very clean. So what is the issue??? Well there is little the hotel owners can do but the sound but during our stay ...it was horrible. Others have said the walls are thin and you really hear your neighbours. We did here the people above but it was never bothersome. What we did hear was the church bell that rings every 15 minutes just outside our balcony. I actually found it charming however my wife was ready to vandalize the church in order to stop the bell. The reason for our less than glowing rating is the nighttime sound from the Horner bar across the street. It has an outside patio and it is a rowdy bar. From about 6pm till after 2am you here a constant cackle of laughs, screams, hoots, hollering, drunken yelling and firecrackers at 1am. Sound carries in the valley but this bar is very loud. Why a quiet valley resort that’s number one attraction is hiking and in fact getting up early to hike would allow a bar to have an outside bar that makes that much noise is beyond me. It seems the will of a few drunks spoils it for the majority. All 4 nights it was bad. One night it was so bad we could not sleep till 3am. We tried ear plugs and listening to our mp3 players. When you want to get up early and hike but only get to sleep at 3am it is a problem. It is for this reason I cannot recommend this hotel. The town needs to close down the outside patio after 10 or 11pm. Have a bar open, sure, but move it inside. If this was a party resort I would say it was more our fault for having chosen such a location but this is a tourist community catering to hikers. What is even more ironic is we paid extra to have the view of the falls. Right below the falls is the Horner bar. We would have been so much better to have taken a view away from the falls and saved money and gotten some sleep. If you choose to stay here, don’t get the falls view rooms. Ask for the opposite side. To see the views go for a one minute walk. OR go to the second floor where there is a patio open to all that has 2 chairs that is open to anyone and I never saw used. Just follow the second floor exit signs. Then after enjoying a romantic view go back to your quiet room and sleep. After our experience I just cannot recommend this hotel in spite of all it does do right.
