“Breathtaking views, very comfortable”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2009

My husband and I have stayed at Hotel Staubbach twice, most recently in May 2009. We travel extensively in Switzerland, and we will definitely be back. Each time we have stayed here we have had a room on the south side of the hotel, with a balcony overlooking the Lauterbrunnen valley and Staubbach Fall. The view must be seen to be believed; it is absolutely gorgeous!

The hotel staff are also wonderful. They are consistently cheerful, friendly, and helpful. They'll stop by your table at breakfast to answer any questions you might have about the area, providing information about local transportation, hiking trails, activities, etc. Theirs is the warmest welcome I have ever received at a hotel.

The hotel itself is also charming-- a well-cared for building with thoughtfully designed rooms. Our only (minor) complaint is the bed: Although comfortable enough, the beds in the double rooms are actually two twin beds pushed together, but this is typical of Swiss hotels.

Finally, the breakfast is delicious and substantial. We hope to return many times in the future.

My wife and I were in the last four days of a three week trip. The location is so georgeous that you almost didn't want to leave the balcony. What a spectacular valley. The rooms, though a bit small (large for Switzerland) were completely overlooked for the view. We had the corner of the third floor, so we woke to five waterfalls in view, and if we looked to the west, an incredible view of the valley.
We walked the valley floor, stopped and talked to the natives, and were absoluely captivated by the charm of where my great gandfather and his descendents were from since the 1650's. The church they were all married in is 1/2 block away.
Great breakfast, only drawback was a common balcony, and the late night talking and wine drinking could be a bit loud.
A small price to pay to experience such a glorious part of God's creations.

My wife and I just got back from our trip to Switzerland and the highlight of the trip was our stay at Hotel Staubbach. Its located in the beautiful Lauterbrunnen valley. We stayed for 3 nights in the small-south-facing room. The views were amazing. The hotel staff were awesome. The breakfast was good and the hotel staff come around during breakfast time and help you plan the day - which was nice. The room was small - but big enough for 2 people - but was very clean. Lauterbrunnen is a great base location to explore Berner Oberland and in Lauterbrunnen Hotel Staubbach is a great place to stay. Their rates are reasonable as well. Overall, excellent choice.

We stayed at Rick Steve's recommended Hotel Staubbach in Lauterbunnen, Switzerland for seven days in May/Jun09. The rooms were very clean and well-maintained each day by the cleaning staff. The breakfast buffet was adequate, serving cereals, yogurt, bread, cheese, deli meats, OJ, coffee, fruit and hard-boiled eggs- enough to give you the energy you need for a hike up the surrounding mountains. There was also a lounge area where you could watch tv, play chess, read or just hang out. We also paid the 10 francs for the entire stay Wi-Fi access which was fine. We were on the third floor and found the connectivity was better downstairs in the lounge. The staff was very helpful in giving us directions to different climbs so we could experience the entire area including a drive into Interlaken which is nearby. Our room provided an incredible view of the Staubbach falls and nearby mountains which we also hiked daily. This hotel is good for everyone- including singles, couples and families.

There are also nearby restaurants, the best of which is the Oberland Hotel, hands down. We ate there every night. If you go, plan to try a Rosti- Switzerland's national dish (the version I had has fried potatoes, cheese, tomatoes which was absolutely delicious).

For lunch, we either went to the co-op down the street to get the basics for lunch (bread, cheese, tomatoes, etc.). This helped keep us on a budget because Switzerland is expensive!

We spent 5 nights there as we travel around in the Jungfrau region. We had the room with the balcony facing the waterfall, it was nice to sit down having a coffee/tea (self-service in the breakfast room all day, free) out on the balcony and enjoying the view.

The staff were very friendly and helpful.

There was no TV in the room, but in the common room. The wooden stairs were old and a bit squeaky.

My husband and I reserved a room at this hotel because of its proximity to the staubach falls and its decent price. We were surprised to end up in one of the attic rooms - if we had known this before traveling we'd have paid more to book someplace else. The ceiling was slanted, so that half of the room had 3 foot ceilings. We didn't mind sharing a bathroom, but the bathroom in the attic put European bathrooms to shame. We ended up skipping down to use the 2nd floor bathroom. Also, we had to keep our window open at night to keep cool, just as our adjacent neighbor did. Unfortunately our neighbor decided to spend half the night on his phone sitting near the window so we heard more than we wanted about his life at wee hours in the morning, while we were trying to sleep. The service was only mediocre. We asked for some local hiking information and was fed some incorrect information. There was no 24 hour desk service. We were checking out before 7am to catch a train, and if we hadn't mentioned this the night before, would've been unable to pay and check out before leaving because there would've been no desk service at that time of the morning. We had to pay the night before, and were asked to leave the key near the desk. We stayed in several hotels throughout Europe for our 2 week trip, and this was by far the worst. If we were to re-visit Lauterbrunnen, we would not stay here, and I wouldn't really recommend this hotel, there are better places for a little more money (especially compared to the attic rooms).
