“An authentic Lauterbrunnen experience”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

If you're looking for a luxurious hotel experience, you may want to bypass the hotels in Lauterbrunnen. On the other hand, if you are looking for a hotel with a small town feel and a friendly environment, this hotel can't be beat. We stayed here for a few nights during our visit to Lauterbrunnen, and I fell in love with this charming home away from home.
Pros:
~Traditional Swiss breakfast served in a room that faces the waterfall.
~Incredibly helpful staff who are more than willing to answer questions and go above and beyond to offer help.
~A large gathering room in the back of the hotel with ice, water, coffee and tea available all day and evening. We became acquainted with numerous other travelers in this social setting.
~An overall friendly feeling from the staff and fellow travelers. One staff member told me that they are lucky because,"All the nice people stay here."
~Some rooms face the Staubbach Falls - breathtaking!
~Very convenient location to the falls, trains, and cable cars.
~Very clean.

Possible "Cons"
~Old creaky stairway and dark hall (In my opinion this added to the charm)
~Basic furnishings
~Cabin-like feel in the rooms
~No safe or tv (Who needs a tv in the Swiss Alps anyway?!?!)

My husband and I are already talking about our next trip to Europe and this is a hotel that will definitely be repeated. Hotel Staubbach and Lauterbrunnen were highlights of our trip!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the falls. The view is amazing!

Truly the nicest and helpful staff I have ever experienced while traveling. The rooms are furnished
Simply but comfortable. The views are spectacular. The breakfast is very good and more than the usual European breakfast choices. The rooms on the front and right side face the gorgeous falls.

Thank you for your hospitality, we really felt very well in your hotel. The room was exelent, and clean, it was quiet as we ask for it. Breakfast was very nice, the girl from Belgia was friendly end helpful. Nikolett at the recepcion desk was very nice and smily. Absolutly helpful, and prepared to answer for any question. Atmosfera in the hotel was like at our home. It was very easy to find the hotel, as it is at the city center.! Thank you for everything! Robert antd Katrin from Ireland.

I am writing to thank the manager Angie. She upgraded our standard room to bigger room facing the snow mountain. Very perfect view. In the evening, we got a champagne placed in the room in the evening. It is to celebrate our honeymoon trip. Really appreciated.

Although the room is not very big, the view facing the snow mountain plus a waterfall is too brillant. This is a memorable stay and I would never forget this place, this hotel and the staff.

Thanks Angie, you and your team are doing a very great job. They deserve a pat on their back.

We stayed 6 nights at this hotel in June. We opted to pay a bit more for the room with the view of the valley - it was worth it. The view was a knock-out! The staff here is outstanding....they really do want to help make your stay as pleasant as possible and try their best to help with ideas for hikes, etc. Breakfast was OUTSTANDING!! Wi-fi worked downstairs in the lobby and not in our room, but we lived with it. We got early morning coffee prior to breakfast being served. The only downside is that the church bells, which are such an integral part of these small villages, rang every hour throughout the night, and is located next to this hotel. It was impossible to get a full night's rest without being awakened by the bells. So if you are a light sleeper, this may not be the place for you. Our deck also appeared to be in need of some repair.....just from old age.

We stayed in this hotel during our 2 days in Lauterbrunnen and would come back again. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a great view of the falls. Staff members were very friendly and helpful. Knowing there was rain in the forecast, they took the time to suggest things to do in the area based on the weather.

Not completely quiet at night - you can hear cowbells in the middle of the night and early morning from the cows just outside of the hotel.

The hotel was located next to staubbach falls, its surreal to look at it over breakfast. The staff are exceptionally friendly chatting with guest over breakfast and rendering advice over travel plans. The breakfast needless to say was fabulous. Our room was a corner overlooking lauterbrunnen valley, it was wonderful. Overnight it started snowing (29May) it was very pretty the snow covered trees. I sprained my ankle in Grindelwald but the hotel supplied icecube in lounge and staff offered firstaid. Very kind of them.
