Chalet-Hotel Rosa
Reviewed July 25, 2012

Our family of 5 stayed here for three nights in June, and absolutely loved it. It was by far our favorite stop on our 5 week tour of Europe. Our room was big (double bed and a bunk bed for the kids), clean and perfectly maintained. Carol is fantastic! She helped us plan all of our hikes, made dining and shopping recommendations and made a fabulous breakfast for us each morning with the most delicious farm fresh eggs.

Lauterbrunnen is a darling town, and the perfect place to stay if you want to tour both sides of the valley. Chalet Rosa is just a short walk through town to the train and cable car stations. We will definitely be back!!

Our Stay here on June 28th and 29th was excellent! Carol was wonderful and helped us in planning hiking trips around the area. She sets an excellent breakfast with cereals, coffee juice, milk, fruit and omelets. the rooms are very clean and the views are breathtaking. Carol even packed us lunches to take on our hikes! This hotel is an great place to use as a springboard into the Murren or Gimmelwald areas (sp).

Chalet Hotel Rosa located fruther 'into' the valley from the Train Station than some of the other hotels in town. About 10-15 minute stroll with roll along suitcase; terrain has ups and downs, but should be easy for anyone in reasonable condition. Property totally rennovated in last few years with new plumbing fixtures and en-suite bathrooms that have towel warming racks (very useful when doing a bit of laundry and you need to do a fast dry.) Airy. Light Colors throughout. Common 'living room' with access to stereo and wood burning fireplace. Breakfast area nicely appointed with furnishings imported from the UK. Ceilings consist of paneled wood and seem to have been placed over any of the previous ceiling covers: a bit of a low celing height for anyone over 6 foot 2 or 3" tall. Carol, the Chalet's Manager, is a wonderful source of information about local places to go; Restaurants; hiking trails; (and in winter, skiing options). She does almost everything in the Chalet from greeting the customers; setting up morning breakfast; housekeeping; and acting as tour guide and hostess. Friendly; Warm; Free Internet Access, but limited to the common areas and breakfast / dining room (after meal times)

Room Tip: Room 5 faces the falls and you look into the upper valley; granite walls; plenty of greenery. Very...

We came across Chalet-hotel Rosa at the ski show, Earls Court, London in October 2011 and thought it would be ideal for our annual ski holiday with our friends. We enjoy the catered chalet atmosphere but the Chalet Rosa was slightly bigger than we were used too, however it looked just up our street. The holiday was booked with an Independant travel company Skimiquel who offered a complete package and their prices were very competetive. The transfer from Geneve airport was long but as there were only 23 of us on the coach we were able to spread out onto double seats and catch up with our sleep having taken an early morning flight. The Chalet was beautiful, situated in the village of Lauterbrunnen in the valley between, Murren and Wengen a very picturesque village. The staff at the Chalet Rosa were extremely helpful and with a proffessional chef we were certainly spoilt during our weeks stay along with afternoon tea and cakes on our return from the slopes, canopys before dinner and 3 course meal as well as cheese and biscuits and wine.
The chalet staff offered ski guiding for the week and two groups were taken out depending on ability. This was extremely helpful as you can easily spend a day or two getting your head around the piste map.
We thought that it would be a pain taking a 20 minute train journey every morning out of the village up to the slopes but it was lovely, the scenery was beautiful and it took no time at all. The company had a heated lockup at the train station which meant we didnt have to carry our skis down to the station everymorning, however the Chalet is only a 5 min walk from the station anyway.
The Chalet was spotless, and our rooms were cleaned daily. There was ample seating in the communal areas and a welcome open log fire prepared every day for our return from the slopes. There was ample space in the bedrooms, and plenty of wardrobe space, none of this climbing over the bed to get to the bathroom as you get with most Chalets.
The only thing I can find to moan about was that there were no tea and coffee facilities outside of the alloted times. They did provide an honesty fridge which was always well stocked with beer and fizzy drinks however if you were up early or back from slopes for the afternoon there was no tea or coffee facilities until the set times, so I would advise that you take a travel kettle if you like your tea/coffee. Unfortunately as it was so cold when we stayed at the Chalet the electrics froze to the hot tub, so we were not able to use this facility for the week, however I would imagine it would have been ideal after a hard days skiing. The hot tub is situated at the side of the Chalet and gives you a fantastic view of the waterfalls (which were frozen when we went).
I would highly recommend this Chalet Hotel and the ski company, Skimiquel. They make you feel special. We all had a fantastic holiday so much so we are hoping to travel with the same company next year.

Room Tip: We were not able to pick our rooms they were allocated by the company however we were allocated room...
