It is rare to find a house that combines such a central location with the peaceful beauty of its own garden. This is a place for those who prefer historic character and individuality to the latest in kitchen appliances. That said, the house is adequately equipped and furnished with an attractive display of paintings and sculpture. This is evidently the home of somebody interested in aesthetics.
The antique cupboards and marble-topped table in the kitchen off-set the fridge and cooker, which are old but work perfectly well. The main bedroom is comfortable and well cared for. Like the large sitting room, it overlooks the extensive walled garden with its orange tree, grape vine and faithful tortoise.
Maria, the owner, is always willing to help with practical advice. She runs a nearby restaurant -Komaky- providing excellent food and engaging conversation. The many approving reviews of the restaurant attest to her friendliness and concern for her customers and we certainly know that this applies to anyone living in her house.
Tavira is a highly attractive town, which we would like to visit again. And staying once again in Maria's house would be a pleasure.
Historic old house this certainly is modernised it is not.
We recently returned from a visit to this holiday home and although the property was
quite big it certainly needed a lot of TLC .The kitchen was huge the fridge was disgusting,it was rusty the handle broken it needed replacing , the old dresser that housed the mis mash of kitchen utensils was okay but the utensils needed replacing. The lounge, this room was the best apart from needing a good cleaning. The bathroom well what can I say the shower was a disgrace the only good thing about this was the flow of water ,the toilet and sink just passable but the tiles were cracked and the emulsion was flaking of the walls ,once again, this room needed a really good clean. The bedrooms just about passable but not one item of bed linen matched although the mattresses were brand new.The garden something unusual in the centre of Tavira was an added bonus as we spent a lot of time out here although it was overgrown ,the outside furniture again needed replacing and the one and only sun bed had a cushion on it that was dirty and in holes. The reason I have only just posted this review is because more visitors were staying in the property during August and September and I did not want them to read this disappointing review. To sum it up the home is a brilliant size ,the garden a great bonus but it needs a lot of attention for anyone to spend an enjoyable holiday in it.
