“Good Value”
Reviewed April 30, 2012

We have stayed in the Vile Gale Tavira on 3 occassions and have always found it to be of a decent standard. Rooms are quite big,the beds are comforable and the bathrooms have a good high- pressure shower. Sound-proofing between rooms could be better.
Service at the front desk, indeed throughout the hotel, is friendly and professional.
Rates are competative and the hotel is situated in a great position to access on foot all the facilities of Tavira. Buffet breakfast provides a reasonable selection of food which is unlimited so one could stuff oneself if one were so inclined--- or greedy!
Yes, bar prices are higher then many other establishments in town, but this is a hotel and there are many other places where one can drink close-by if cheap drink is a priority.
I would reccommend booking a pool side room as these are quietier, do not go for a ground floor room. A bit of a niggle on our last trip was an ongoing problem with the key-card to our room which repeatedly failed to open the door and necessitated returning to the front desk.
We intend to stay in Vile Gale when next we return to beautiful Tavira.

Stayed at this hotel for a week in April 2012. The rooms are spacious and clean. Like most reviews i would recommend that you pay for a room with a pool view, not because it's a particularly great view but the outside of the hotel is surrounded by roads and resulting traffic noise. Though to be fair the traffic doesn't seem to be that heavy so may not be an issue. A good hotel for me must have a good shower and we were not dissapointed! Breakfast is the usual chain hotel fair, selection of fruit, buffet selection of eggs/ bacon etc and cold meats and cheeses. the same every day and would have been nice if there was some different choice occasionally but all perfectly edible.
Tavira itself is a nice "town" rather than a "resort" which we liked , with numerous places to eat. Our favourits were Aquasul and Bica both across the Roman bridge.

Would recommend both Hotel an Town.

Room Tip: The noise from the reception area can echo up to the 2nd and 3rd floors, so try for a room on the we...

My wife and I are very keen on Tavira and this hotel is simply very convenient for walking just about anywhere in town. The rooms are a decent size and our bathroom looked quite new; we had a balcony overlooking the pool. The pool area can get quite busy, even in April when we were there. The pool water was pretty cold but quite a few hardy souls ventured in.

We see little point in eating anything other than breakfast at the hotel given the many reasonably-priced restaurants and cafes within walking distance. The breakfast buffet offered a decent selection though it was worth keeping your eyes open for the arrival of fresh supplies of fried eggs and bacon.

The staff seemed pleased to help, though never in a hurry.

Two tips. There is a free public car park next to the hotel if you don't wish to pay the hotel's parking charge. Also, the hotel provides a free wine tasting half hour several times a week - and are generous with the measures.

Very clean, welcoming and efficiently run. highly recommended but only have Bed & Breakfast
This then allows you to visit some splendid local restaurants, do not miss the Three Palmtrees near the big shopping development on the fringe of town over the new bridge.

Dinner is typically buffet with all except main courses OK but yet again I found the main courses poor, either colder than they should be or well stewed. Vegetables were alwaqys overcooked and often tinned

Room Tip: If you want peace and quiet you need a pool view room away from the main road which encircles the ho...

The bedroom 2043 was excellent and I would recommend the west facing pool view rooms along that side as they get the sun almost all day.
The breakfasts are very average and rely on keeping food under warm lights -- eggs don't fair well and the bacon was not what we expect at home.
The bar was very quiet because of the prices and lack of entertainment which used to be on every night.
We ate ou every night and found Jamies Kitchen very good accross from the old road bridge.

Room Tip: West facing rooms on level 2/3 overlooking the pool are quietest and have the sun almost all day. Ro...

We stayed a few nights in this hotel and were very happy with the facilities available to us. Close to the river and a short walk into the town of Tavira where there are a number of bars and small restaurants. The hotel itself was clean and the staff both at reception and in the bar and restaurant were friendly and helpful. A decent size gym/fitness centre and small indoor pool were just right for the size of the hotel. Food was of an acceptable quality although the buffet was not as large or as extensive as some of the similar sized hotels we have stayed in. Found no problems with soundproofing in the bedrooms and we had comfortable sleeps in comfortable beds. Would we stay here again - yes we would.

Room Tip: Go for a room with a pool view.

On the whole we enjoyed our week's stay at Vila Gale.

The room faced west along one of the side roads and we found that traffic noise was not a problem. However there was a reasonable amount of noise from the adjacent bedrooms - not to be a problem but noticeable. The room iself was a fair size, with a small balcony. I found the bed rather on the hard side.

We were on an all-inclusive and it is fair to say that the meals got a bit predicatable. This might have been an issue if we were staying more than one week.

The breakfast had a cooked option but I preferred to stay with fruit, yogurt, rolls etc. The fruit juice was excellent and not watered down and the coffee top notch. Lunch was a choice from soup, salad, main, dessert and cheese but from a buffet style which was typical for all the meals. The food was well cooked but clearly not as good as if personally served. Same comments apply to dinner although a couple of nights there was a BBQ/grill of steaks whih was a welcome change.

The pool area was fine but too cold to tempt me into the water - same applied some days with just sitting outside. No fault of the hotel but it was windy at times. However there is a very good indoor pool which I used each day, a sauna and gym.

Service was good = both the reception and the restaurant.

In many ways it is the location that is so good. The hotel is a short stroll from the centre of town which has some interesting places of interest, such as the castle. There are also some excellent walks across and near the salt marshes where you can easily see a lot of different wading birds, storks and bee eaters too - all within a few minutes walk from the hotel. Remember to pack your binoculars!
