“Tranquil garden paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2013

We stayed here by chance after our initial hotel choice was not able to accommodate us on the first night. We are so lucky that this was the case.

The hotel is a boutique in the truest sense of the word. There is a lot of attention to detail. Rooms are serene, clean, and feel luxurious but also authentic. The pool area is peaceful and perfect for sunbathing among the absolutely stunning gardens that are filled with fragrant flowers and trees and there is an honesty style bar where you can get drinks.

We had both breakfast which was fresh and plentiful and a 3 course dinner which was served by candlelight in the garden and cooked by a very talented in-house chef. While there is no menu, we were asked about any preferences we had. The food was wonderfully fresh and true to Portuguese cuisine.

Miguel, the manager, was wonderfully welcoming and helpful, however when he is not there, the other staff have little understanding of English but personally I like this as it makes the whole experience feel more traditional and exotic.

The hotel is not particularly close to the town or beaches and definitely requires either a rental vehicle or you will need to use taxis. Miguel organised a very affordable scooter for us and for a couple, was a really wonderful and romantic way of getting to the nearby beaches and towns. However if you are only staying for a night or 2 then there would be no need to even leave the hotel. Without a doubt I would return to stay here again.

Tips: Bring some insect repellant- while the gardens are stunning, they do attract loads of insects and wasps and without repellant they can become annoying

There are no nearby shops, so bring all the essentials you may need such as suntan lotion, snacks etc.

Room Tip: The First floor rooms are a little more private, as while the ground floor rooms have terraces that...

We discussed not sending a review to tripadvisor because we wanted to keep Quinta Da Lua a secret but I guess the word is out.
There are only 9 gorgeous rooms so its never busy by the pool or in the well tended gardens.
The beautifully designed rooms are spacious with super soft bed linen, DVD, TV, CD player, Dolce Gusto coffee machine, lots of wardrobe and storage space, separate sitting area. There are twin rainshowers in the bathroom, loads of big soft towels, nice shampoo and products...
We were in a downstairs room so our terrace was right by the pool and the (help yourself) bar which is well stocked and not expensive.
A fantastic breakfast arrives by magic every morning. While you are asleep the little terrace table outside your room is set for breakfast with crisp white linen etc. When you venture outdoors into the sun you are soon greeted by a super friendly lady bringing what can only be described as a local taster breakfast. Fresh squeezed juice, fresh cut fruit, muesli, yoghurt, breads and croissants, ham, cheeses, home made marmalade and jam, honey - all accompanied by never ending coffee and tea. Gorgeous.
Dinner is optional - you just need to say if you'd like it at breakfast time. There is no menu so everyone eats the same. We had a few meals in - fresh fish, veal, codfish, chicken - all with seasonal vegetables or salad. Super tastey. Starters and desserts were great and the local wine is much better than you'd think.
Everything from the pool towels and the DVD/CD collection in your room to the reserved sunloungers at the local beach has been thought through very carefully to make sure you have the best possible time.
The local town is not very touristy and has a good selection of restuarants. Taxis are easy to find and abobut the same price as at home.
I have no idea why Quinta Da Lua is not No1 in Tavira on tripadvisor. Its a mystery to me.

We have just returned from a quick 3 day break to the Algarve and our stay at the beautiful Quinta da Lua. It is one of the most picturesque places we have ever stayed, being surrounded by orange groves and the property itself by a wonderful garden full of trees and fragrant flowers.
Despite arriving very late at night and after a fairly stressful journey from the UK we were made to feel immediately at ease and relaxed in our beautiful room which overlooked the pool and garden. Miguel had kindly upgraded us to a "superior room" from the double we had booked and everything about it was faultless - from the decor, to the terrace, the exceptionally comfortable bed and high quality linen, even down to the fresh flowers and complimentary mineral water. From what we saw of the whole place, I doubt that the "standard" rooms would be any less perfect.
We booked Quinta da Lua believing it was in Tavira and were a bit concerned when we found out this was not the case. You will definitely need some transport as the town is a short drive away, however, this distance adds to the charm of being out in the countryside and the complete relaxation that Quinta da Lua can offer.
We love our food and were not disappointed by the breakfast of fresh fruit, bread, yoghurt, cheese and cakes. As a result, we decided to eat dinner at Qunita da Lua and really enjoyed it (both nights!). Guests can help themselves to drinks from a well-stocked out-door bar and are trusted to mark in a little book things they have taken.
Miguel has created a little idyll at Quinta da Lua. We really struggled to find anything about it that we would change and would certainly love to return again in the future.

NB. Some visitors have previously mentioned in posts the bathrooms - these have now all been renovated and were of a very high standard in our room.

This location truly is a little heaven on earth. We were here during the spring and the whole garden smells like lavender and other blossoms and fruit. Every morning you will get a splendid breakfast without fresh fruits and bread, fresh orange juice, yoghurt with muesli and honey and homemade jams and cakes. Also, everyday the room is cleaned thoroughly and made cosy with flowers and cushions. The garden is so beautiful and quiet, you hear only the birds and the wind. You can eat lunch or dinner at the Quinta, which is a bit pricy (20 euros per person for lunch and 30 for dinner) but it's worth it because it's served very beautifully and it tastes delicious, plus you get a 3 course meal. We did a lot of cycling in the surrounding areas, which was beautiful. A perfect vacation!

We loved Quinta da Lua. We went in off season when it was raining, but even so, it was great. Food is good, rooms are wonderful and the staff is very sweet. A definite keeper! Very peaceful and enjoyable.

Room Tip: All lovely.

It is difficult to find a criticism of this hotel. Nice rooms, good food, charming service, relaxing atmosphere and delightful gardens. There is also a good pool. Lunch and dinner available on request.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good - each with their own balconies. Ground floor rooms are bigger, have baths as...

This place is amazing, it' close to the centre but one doesn't really need to go anywhere because they have everything one could possibly need. The lady who runs it puts so much care in every detail and works super hard to make you feel pampered. It's quiet, clean, relaxing, easy, everything that one expects from a holiday. We really loved our time there. They also offer amazing meals always accompanied by super fresh vegetables and fruit. And at a very good price. The rooms are really nice, we stayed upstairs, which was nicer because we had our own small balcony but also the rooms downstairs have space outside. The only downside is that the staff, except the manager, doesn't speak English but we didn't have any problem communicating anyway. The manager could put more effort in welcoming international guests. We were really happy with this place and would definitely want to go back.
